5.0 out of 5 stars The Joy of (reading pastiche) Sex 14 Aug 2012
Format:Hardcover
If your reaction to this summer's most contentious literary phenomenon is Pavlovian, I recommend you try 'Fifty Shelves', the ultimate antidote. Containing more silly sex and sexual silliness than a school-boy's biology text-book, this tongue-in-cheek tome transforms fifty of literature's greatest hits into witty works of filth whilst retaining the signature styles and tones of each original. 'Lord Of The Rings' goes where you'd expect it to with a title like that - honestly, Tolkien, were you really that gauche? - and I particularly enjoyed the utterly smutty rendition of a Nigella Lawson recipe. The sophisticated sexual references make it possibly too outre as a gift to older readers of a certain sensibility, unless you're aiming for heart failure; other than that, be proud to read it in public and grateful that you don't need to subject yourself to the compulsive MSG of 'Fifty Shades'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious 14 Aug 2012
By K. Read
Format:Hardcover
A very cleverly written amalgamation of risque versions of all our favourite books. Even without having read all of the originals you can enjoy the humour of this parody paradise. Perfect present material (for the age-appropriate recipients..) but definitely also worth buying yourself a copy and shamelessly chuckling away as you see the Da Vinci Code (among others) in a whole new light...

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh-out-loud funny! 14 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
So good! I really, really enjoyed this.
Try the free preview/look inside for a general idea of the book. But, honestly, certain sections had me howling with laughter.
If you're feeling the post-Olympic blues, give "Fifty shelves" a try!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fifty Shelves
Enjoyed some of the parodies, but became rather bored before the end. Maybe I shouldn't have tried to read them all in one sitting. Shall try again in a few months.

I ordered this with fifty sheds of grey which is hysterical. I thought it would be along the same lines. It's not, it's am awful attempt to make fabulous novels 'erotic'. Read more

poor quality and just an excuse for soft porn and with very little comedy involved. Too many of these books around.

2.0 out of 5 stars Neither funny enough nor erotic enough
Parodies of well-liked books can be very funny. This one somehow isn't for me, perhaps because it purports to present erotic versions of the originals, and I didn't find them... Read more
