Product Description

Album Description

• The second in Ace’s series of King acetate restorations offers an overview of the important recordings by one of hillbilly music’s most renowned ‘brother’ acts.

• Ace’s previous volume of the Delmore’s King sides (CDCHD 455) is one of the company’s best sellers and the content of the follow-up is just as good musically, and even better sound wise.

• Many of the acetates from which these recordings were taken had not been played in almost 50 years, prior to the transfers that were made for this CD.

• As is the policy throughout this series, where the acetate for the master take has been lost or destroyed they have used the most significant of the alternates availables.

• Few of these tracks have ever been reissued before. Most have been unavailable for over half a century.

This review is from: Fifty Miles To Travel (Audio CD)
The JSP box sets are terrific value but were taken from surviving shellac records,I believe. So some tracks are not as good as they could be, but here we have crystal clear, pristine recordings that make The Delmore brothers sound better than I have ever heard them. I cant wait for more of the same quality. There are half a dozen tracks not on other cds plus a few 'alternate' takes. Hearing these guys sound this good, demonstrates why they influenced so many artists that followed, just as they were crowded out by imitaters in the 1930's, so it happened again in the 1940's after thier 'Hillbilly Boogie' suddenly everybody copied them again and they were lost in the crowd. This cd proves it. 'Blues stay away from me' must be the most copied of them all.
