Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

It's always nice to hear music that combines interesting ideas with a sense of humour and Fiesta Songs has plenty of both. Señor Coconut--aka prolific sonic chameleon Uwe Schmidt--has proved himself a master of tongue-in-cheek musical madness on many occasions. Schmidt's Señor Coconut persona has been his most popular project by far though. It's no surprise given the concept, which is the transformation of well-known songs into slightly cheesy, mildly exotic Latino lounge music.

After cha-cha-cha-ing a load of Kraftwerk classics on his previous El Baile Aleman (The German Dance) LP, he returns now with a more diverse collection than before, one that embraces a range of soul, pop and rock classics from the last 30 years. "Smoke on the Water", "Riders on the Storm", "Blue Eyes", "Smooth Operator" and "Beat It" all get the Coconut treatment and sit alongside a few original compositions. Some say he's a renegade genius, others that he's a tacky cover artist--most of us are too busy swaying and smiling to care. --Paul Sullivan

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheeky Cha Cha Cha 7 Dec 2006
Format:Audio CD
I've been a fan of Senor coconut since he was featured on radio 5 about 18 months ago. He somehow manages to fuse serious latin beats into quite tongue in cheek songs.

There's not lot to this album, especially as the last track is the same as 'Smoke on the Water' but sung in spanish but 'Beat it' must be heard to be believed

I listen to this album not only to cheer me up but also to dance to. His Cha Cha Chas are bang on tempo and you could hardly fail to love this album.

Senor Coconut (A German living in Chile with a Danish Salsa Band) has created a brilliantly constructed album that just make me laugh. As a DJ this has become a firm favourite for making people sit up and listen. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone who looks at life from a different angle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Humo En El Agua Baby 28 Jun 2008

I was in a clothing store a couple of years ago, and on the sound system was a wicked salsa version of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the water".

Having cut my teeth on Deep Purple, but long since expanded my musical tastes in almost endless directions, as soon as I got home, I googled around a little and found out the geniuses behind this gem were Senor Coconut.

I suppose, once one gets over the cognitive dissonance of a salsa version of "Smoke on the water" to begin with, one shouldn't be too surprised to learn that these guys are from Germany of all places.

There are more killer covers here than just "Smoke".

If you're into salsa, cha-cha-cha, bolero, etc., and also enjoy pop, rock, etc. (and who doesn't?), then this is right up your alley.

4.0 out of 5 stars music to smile to 16 Sep 2003

This album really makes me happy. The covers of "Riders on the Storm" and "Beat It" are hilarious and ingenious. They are really very good musicians as well, with tight rhythms and smooth instrumentation. It will keep you dancing!

5.0 out of 5 stars El Hombre de Coco does it again. 9 Nov 2003

Fun stuff here. "Electrolatino" is my favorite. The whole album is great fun, but skip the English version of "Smoke on the Water" and go for the bonus Espanol version instead. If you haven't experienced Senor Coconut yet, get with it! There are 3 albums; buy them all. I hope this isn't the last we hear from him...
3.0 out of 5 stars Funny for an hour or two, then tedious 25 Oct 2013

I was turned on to the magic that is Senior Cocnut by a German friend who thinks the man is brilliant. The music is well made, but it's essentially latin-flavored elevator music versions of popular songs. This is fun for two or three listens, then it gets boring. I ended up giving my copy to my elderly mother, who likes EZ Listening. Essentially that's what this is. The kind of music you used to hear when on hold for a dentists' office or the customer service department of the mall.

I suppose it could be fun background music to have randomly pop up during a party, amidst other tracks. Or if you were making a movie, it might be fun to have this somewhere on the soundtrack, but basically it's modestly diverting uselessness.

4.0 out of 5 stars festivity of sound 12 Dec 2003
By Brian Wallace (Co-author of It's Not Your Hair) - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
an extravaganza of sound and festive energy that will pump new life into your stereo system pronto.
A highly amusing and entertaining arrangement of voice and spiced up instruments, not to mention the wonderful little surprises like Martin Gore influences.
Totally unique.
