Hi there everyone this is Kev from Stump.
The release of this anthology was originally set for early October '07 but Universal Records have just bought Sanctuary Records. A final decision on the release date has not been made yet but should be announced shortly. It may be delayed until early in the New Year. Below is the CORRECT track listing - (it's 3 CDs, not 2 as some sources say) and you'll notice there are many unreleased tracks that make up the 'Post Pancake' album.

All the best, Kev.

Well, at last IT'S HERE!! Joyous celebrations all round!

If I have any minor criticism, it is that it doesn't include everything, (such as the marvellous 12" "Lights! Camel! Action!" remix of 'Charlton Heston' - which is rather sad as Charlton himself passed away last weekend). It also omits the whole of the 12" EP of Peel Sessions recorded in January 1986 (my, that's over 20 years ago now, sigh). The latter was originally issued on Strange Fruit, maybe they are just unavailable for legal reasons(?). These are very small issues (hey, I have these two things on vinyl anyway), and issues that I can accept - this is a fantastic set with many previously unreleased gems! Go do yourselves a favour and buy a piece of real authentic rock music. There has never been anyone quite like Stump... nor will there probably ever be!

I just had to pick up a copy of this marvellous compilation on the day it finally surfaced, and it's a great package with some very interesting sleeve notes on the history of the band. All we can hope for now is a band reunion (I heard that they DID all meet up in 2006 in Clonakilty, Cork), and maybe even a reunion gig. I can but dream. Sigh.

Lord rest the mighty Stump.

The reissuing of much of Stump's output on this release is an incredibly exciting event (to me, at least), as all of Stump's releases have been out of print, and hence very difficult to obtain, for a very long time. Most of the songs on this album (except for those from A Fierce Pancake) are being released on CD for the first time. I won't waste any time getting hold of this fantastic reissue. A big thank you to the record label!

Here's something I've been waiting for for years, even if I didn't realise it. Stump were a late-eighties indie group that had a minor hit with 'Buffalo' but otherwise sank without trace, more's the pity. This 3CD set includes pretty much all their recordings and it's a spastic joy to hear it again. They had this unique synergy of demented bass guitar harmonics and whammy-bar-tastic lead guitar paroxysms that was utterly mental in 1986 and still sounds oddball twenty years on. Centrepiece of the collection is their only full-length LP from 88 'A Fierce Pancake' which sounds as thrilling and as fresh today as it did two decades ago. Anyone recall Charlton Heston Put His Vest On? Lyrics that ask you to question the group's grip on sanity as much as your own, with instrumental accompaniment more epileptic than any band has attempted before or since. A very acquired taste, but once acquired, never forgotten. Best band of the 80s.

Unexpected because I didn't realise that this had been released. I have always loved Stump, and had managed to collect virtually everything they ever released on vinyl. I didn't have the CD version of Fierce Pancake, but had lovingly dubbed everything from vinyl to CD (and then to mp3). Now I can throw away some of those recordings and listen to everything without the pops and crackles from my worn records!

As has been mentioned, this isn't quite a complete anthology - missing the Peel sessions and a couple of remixes (the Charlton Heston remix is especially missed). However it is a very comprehensive collection.

Many of the tracks on the third disk are taken from the B-sides of various releases, and it is nice to have them all collected together - in fact it is nice to have all of this stuff on CD at all. Something I thought would never happen.

Add in a few unreleased tracks (of slightly varying quality recording-wise) and you have an essential collection. To whoever had the vision to get this put out - thanks very much!
