Amazon.co.uk Review

In an attempt to catch lightning in a bottle, John Cleese wrote Fierce Creatures with the purpose of reuniting the comedic cast of A Fish Called Wanda. Media mogul (Kevin Kline) owns a London zoo. He demands that the park raise more profit, so the new zoo director (Cleese) orders that only dangerous animals be displayed in order to maximize ticket sales. In a dual role, Kline also plays the mogul's son, who plans to run the zoo with the help of displaced employees (including Michael Palin) and zoo programmer Willa Weston (Jamie Lee Curtis). The situation lends itself to comedic confusion and split-second timing, and for a few good laughs the film is a pretty safe bet. It's not as hilarious as A Fish Called Wanda (that's a pretty tall order), but Cleese knows comedy, and his efforts are worth a look. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

As one knows all institutions should pull their own weight in today's economic environment. John Cleese as Rollo Lee is tasked with coming up with a money making scheme to save the Zoo. The theme is "Fierce Creatures" See the unique solution in action.

All the characters in this movie have some unique quirkiness to them. I am not going into detail as the surprises are best seen. However Rollo gets a kinky reputation by being seen with half-clad women (plural) and various compromising situations with animals.

Bottom line will the Zoo be saved? What happened to less fierce creatures and people? Will Willa find love or a reasonable substitute?

Look for Cynthia Cleese (daughter of John Cleese and Connie Booth) as Pip Small Mammals.

A Fierce Movie! 12 May 2010
Format:DVD
This movie is funny from start to finish, if you love "A Fish Called Wanda" you are bound to love this one, it has the same great cast with some awesome new editions and great humor and a good plot, you don't know where the movie is going and how everybody are going to end up until the end. I wish there was a third movie with this cast! The movie has a lot of great animals, and there was a lot of work to make such an elaborate Zoo-set!

I assume anyone who watched and (most probably) loved A FISH CALLED WANDA, wouldn't miss checking this reunion, no matter what the reviewers say. AFCW was just too good , thus any attempt to recapture the success and fun has to be checked.

That said, I ordered the set, knowing there was no consensus as to it's quality.

Unlike Fierce Creatures, With AFCW, I didn't have to decide what I thought about it. I just loved every bit of it from the first moment.

Although FC has the same leading cast, with many more fine actors and many cameos of other known British actors, and although a huge effort was put in building "...one of the largest and most ambitious sets ever created.." in Pinewood Studios (according to the productions note) - the movie has a stilted feel to it in many scenes.

It does have it's funny moments, but somehow it just fails to deliver.

Regarding the boxset - the picture and sound quality are very good , but apart from some production/actors/directors notes there are no extras.
No Behind the scenes / Featurettes / Commentary, which could certainly add a lot to the overall quality of the production, especially where such an unusual effort was made with all the Zoo set and the animals and the many appearances of well known actors, which overall could for sure spawn many interesting stories.

A missed opportunity but still worth watching once. (I don't consider it re-watchable as AFCW)

Subtitles in English,Dutch,Norwegian,Swedish and Danish.
