Astonishing 24 Oct 2003

Following on from Talk Talks increasing experimentation this record takes a loose and freewheeling approach to it music. It takes on territories and instrumentation covered by the likes of Dead Can Dance and Jah Wobble although without the formers Po faced seriousness. The album doesn't always stay focused but when its "on" it is truely brilliant.

While Orang's first album - Herd of Instinct - is more accomplished, this offering is still of interest. It's very different to anything Talk Talk produced, yet retains the free-flowing ethic which underscored that band's last two albums. The stronger tracks are those lacking the sometimes insipid vocals; but ironically one of the best tracks is Seizure, where Paul Webb demonstrates his vocal talents to good effect. It's taking an awfully long time for a fresh offering from Orang to appear, so fans can only wait!

As a serious Talk Talk fan I bought this CD, but it is a big disappointment. It never comes near the billiance of any of the Talk Talk albums. Probably it was not meant to be by Harris and Webb, but I don't have any clue how this music can bring anybody any pleasure.

I don't have much hope for the future of o'rang as this is their second album and it's not getting better.

Better try the Mark Hollis solo album!
