Product Description

The final book in the famine trilogy

For Eily, Michael and Peggy the memory of the famine is still strong. But Mary-Brigid, Eily's first child, has the future to look forward to. What kind of future is it?

Ireland is in turmoil, with evictions, burnings, secret meetings, fights over land. Eily and her family may be thrown off their farm. Michael may lose his job in the big house. And Peggy, in America, feels trapped in her role as a maid. Will they ever have land and a home they can call their own? Eily, Michael and Peggy have once shown great courage. Now this courage is called on again …

The other titles in the Famine trilogy are Under the Hawthorn Tree and Wildflower Girl. A study guide to Under the Hawthorn tree is also available.

When I read under the Hawthorn Tree I was greatly moved by the tragedy of the famine and the bravery of three young children risking everything to escape having to go to a workhouse and making the long journey across Ireland to reach the cttage of their two aunts. I couldn't wait to read the next in the series, Wild Flower Girl, I found even better that the first, I could really imagin myself making that boat trip to America all on my own-terifying! I am still reading Fields of home at the moment and so far it is definitely living up to my expectations! Laura Jones

I love Under the Hawthorn Tree, Wildflower girl and fields of home. In fields of home alot of things happen. First of all it's hell for Eily and John to try to raise money to buy their house. Eventually a special surprise comes along. Meanwhile Peggy is devastated to find her best friend Kitty is leaving. This book is exxxxxxxxxcellant! I wold give it 6 crowns if I could.
