Product Description

Review

"This is a well presented account of surface anatomy...deserves a place amongst the classic pieces of medical writing." Journal of Orthopaedic Medicine "This book will prove very useful to students studying pure and applied anatomy, both at undergraduate and post graduate level. It would also be an asset as a reference tool in the clinical setting, particularly in the out-patient physiotherapy department." Physiotherapy" --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

The combination of diagrams, colour photos, six anatomically stuctured and sub-divided main sections, self-asessment questions throughout, and use of colourised bold text to highlight key terms render this a very enjoyable and comprehensible.

As a physio student I have found this book to be of enormous value. Palpation is one of the hardest things to be confident with but Derek Field, FCSP, has made it much easier.

The descriptions are concise and the pencil drawings that correspond to the photos are as clear as you will ever need them. The book starts with basic principals of palpation before taking you logically through the human body. No matter what your profession; palpation is a powerful assessment tool and as such you need to be prepared. I have not seen a better way of doing this that reading Mr Field's book.

Short paragraphs of text provide an easily sufficient amount of detail. They are placed alongside photos and diagrams of the surface points on the human body they are describing to provide simple identification. Important muscle attachments and joint structures are summarised for quick and effective learning.
This book can be used alone or to supplement other anatomy textbooks. Ideal for exam revision and for those of us who find other anatomy textbooks a little longwinded.

Quick and easy index - brilliant reference book for anyone studying human surface anatomy and palpation.

Very good for the images and in-depth explanations
But not very good in a classroom environment when need to quickly find that one Origin, Insertion and Actions what you just cant seem to remember.
A good idea for any further editions would be to have a table for each of the chapters with Origins, Insertions and actions.
