Koen Holtkamp - Field Rituals 22 Feb 2012
By scoundrel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The guitar of "Half Light" that starts off Koen Holtkamp's FIELD RITUALS grows increasingly fragmented and filtered as the track continues, until it's almost a springboard from which the other sounds emerge. It's delicate, yes, and startlingly beautiful, just like the refracted guitars that echo throughout "Sky Flowers" until they're subsumed by the drone and then re-emerge. The bell that starts off "Bear Bell," as well, disappears under a haze of layers. Even the vocals on "Night Swimmer" are little more than added texture. "Walker," at first, sounds more oceanic, akin to a late night sea-radar warning, but then the subway and the cellos soon take over. The final long track, "Haus Und Spirale Im Regen" starts with a twinkling, like of constellations, and then extends on. The sonic field Holtkamp presents is one with a long vision.
Beautiful album 4 Jan 2009
By Kumar Mcmillan - Published on Amazon.com
A beautiful, patient album from Koen Holtkamp that captures the essence of the natural world in its pace. A great piece to put on in the background or for something to relax to while working. My only critique is the album starts off very strong but then fades into ambient sounds that offer little originality. That said, the opening two tracks are amazing, unique pieces of work - DJ Bylamplight
