Product Description

A true field guide for insects, over 1000 illustrations, 778 in colour. No other group of living creatures has such variety of form, colour, function and habitat as insects. There is no simple definition that takes in all the variations, all that can be done is to list those features of insects that distinguish them from other animals. This book has been designed to help the the non-specialist place an insect in its correct group and to provide the basic knowledge necessary for tackling the more detailed works. It is hoped that the specialist may also find this book of use in dealing with those orders with which he is less familiar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chinery's Field Guide, 6 Aug 2010
This review is from: Field Guide to the Insects of Britain and Northern Europe (Hardcover)
A must have on the Nature Photographers bookshelf

The advice I was given by an Ecologist friend was "Identifying insects to species isn't always easy, for a good start try Michael Chinery's field guides."

He was right I constantly refer to it.

This guide is excellent for getting things to family level but for a specific species ID you will always need a more specialist book

4.0 out of 5 stars very good, 24 Oct 2011
A decent insect field guide at a decent price. Not quite as many illustrations as I had assumed there would be but good all the same. Very informative.
