Product Description

The fields, woods and gardens of Britain and Europe are home to a wide range of edible mushrooms, a number of which are not simply good but truly excellent to eat. This book is a practical, user-friendly guide to collecting edible wild fungi species across Britain and Europe. Covering all of the necessary identification features of over 70 edible mushroom and truffle species, along with over 50 poisonous species to avoid, the entries provide detailed information on size, appearance, occurrence and habitat, backed up with specially-commissioned colour photography, shot in situ and in natural light. With tips on when and where to hunt for wild mushrooms, invaluable advice on preserving, storing and cooking them, advice on environmentally-friendly collecting, this book provides all the information a mushroom forager could need in one place.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice PRIMARY INTRO to mushroom world., 6 Sep 2009
By Shay Leon - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I got this book when I started getting interested in mushrooms. My first reaction was a total disappointment - I expected to be able to recognize at least half of the mushrooms in the forest, but barely managed to recognize 1 in 20.

After spending more time in the forest I realise that in a book this size it's impossible to have enough species. I got a book specific for Ireland, where I'm from, and even with this book it's difficult to recognize many species.

This book is a nice intro to the subject, but will not make you an expert.

In my original review I gave it one star. I think it deserves 2.5
