This is just about the best book of its kind, and a wonderful introduction to Scots fiddle. The 365 tunes are arranged by types - airs, strathspey, jigs, reels and so on - and almost every traditional tune you would ever want to hear is there. There's an intro. by Yehudi Menuhin, who flirted with Scots fiddle music for a while (he had lessons from Hector MacAndrew, if I remember correctly), and a good historical introduction with some nice pictures. At the end there are brief notes on quite a lot of the tunes. The book is well-printed and nicely produced, absolutely authoritative and in every way an excellent resource on which you can absolutely rely.

This is a great book - a HUGE number of Scottish fiddle pieces and a very interesting introduction which gives a comprehensive description of styles, bowings and so on.

Glad to have this book back in my library 12 Aug. 2009

I owned this book twice before, and twice made the mistake of lending it to people who apparently liked it as much as I did. The last time it didn't come back home, I decided not to replace it. That was five years ago, and last month I discovered once more that I really wanted it and, once more, bought a replacement copy. This one will be a "library copy"--not to leave the premises! It's an excellent collection of Scottish tunes, with bowings and ornamentation suggestions. It also contains a good historical overview of the Scottish fiddle tradition and a commentary on the Scottish fiddling idiom.
