5.0 out of 5 stars FIBROMYALGIA - Don.L.Goldenberg, 2 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: Fibromyalgia: Understanding and getting relief from pain that won't go away (Paperback)
This is a MUST have if you suffer with or think you may be suffering with fibromyalgia.
After seeing many different people within the medical and alternative medicine fields and having a multitude of different tests over the past 15 years, all proving unhelpful, I decided to see a G.P. at my doctor's surgery that I hadn't seen before. He instantly said "READ THIS BOOK!", and let me borrow a copy, which I have since bought for myself. At last I had found the cause of why I had been suffering all these years. With my G.P.'s help I am now on the road to recovery.

I've read quite a few books on this condition in my capacity as a FMS charity founder and have to say this is definitely one of the better ones. Written from a personal perspective in that his wife has the dx, he's taken time to work through some of the more complex material in a very easy to understand fashion and draws the reader into his own personal story in a way that makes you appreciate how much it has impacted his life, and the reasons behind his own quest for support and information on it etc. One well worth investing in.

1.0 out of 5 stars not what i was looking for, 28 April 2010

This review is from: Fibromyalgia: Understanding and getting relief from pain that won't go away (Paperback)
The first thing that struck me on receiving this book was that it now has a foreword by Simon Wessley. This probably influenced my opinion of the book negatively as i cannot stand his opinion or approach to ME/CFS which i have. I do not have Fibromyalgia but was looking for something which may address the pain symptoms i have been experiencing. As i suspected after seeing Wessley's name the book does focus largely on how previous life experiences of stress/trauma/abuse have influenced/caused the illness and if it is "all in your head" (a whole chapter) etc. There is some information about medications but it seemed not very detailed and nothing i had not read in numerous other places. I was looking for practical advice not to go over the old arguments again, which seems the agenda of this book. But if you feel your illness is strongly connected to emotional issues/trama then you may feel this book is appropriate for you. I found the case studies simplistic and the tone of the book fairly irritating, but i only flicked through briefly as i returned it the same day, so perhaps did not give it a fair go. All i can say for sure is it was not right for me.
