Today, Fiat's superbly stylish 124 Spider is accepted internationally as a desirable classic car and its stablemate, the elegant 124 Coupé, is quickly gaining similar acceptance. That this recognition is deserved cannot be disputed, for both cars have all the right ingredients for lasting fame: original style, original engineering and real driver-pleasing performance, together with the one essential quality that makes a real 'classic car' - deep-seated individual character. In production from 1966 to 1985, the Pininfarina-designed 124 Spider was a huge export success for Fiat with over 170,000 examples being sold in the USA alone, whilst the 124 Coupé, styled by Boano, also enjoyed sales success throughout the world between 1967 and 1975. Both cars used Fiat's willing and technically advanced twin-cam engine in sizes ranging from 1400 to 2000cc. Towards the end of production the Spider even enjoyed supercharged performance in its Volumex form. Not to be forgotten is the 124 Spider's important rôle in international rallying during the 1970s, when the cars created and homologated by Abarth were very successful and always newsworthy. Over 1000 examples of the legendary Fiat-Abarth 124 Spider were built and today, deservedly, these traditionally black-bonneted/hooded cars enjoy great status amongst serious collectors. About the Author
Johnny Tipler is an international motoring journalist and author, with over 30 books published on a variety of sports-orientated subjects. He ran the JPS Motorsport press office for three years, chronicling the fortunes of Team Lotus and Players sponsored events. Johnny was also an associate of the Motor Industry Research Unit, deputy editor of Restoring Classic Cars, sub-editor on CarWeek from 1993-1995, and features editor on Land Rover Owner International in 1996. He has contributed regularly to 911 & Porsche World, Land Rover Owner, Octane, and Lotus Club International magazines. His features have included drive stories, interviews with key industry figures, sporting events (eg Carrera Panamericana), buying guides, and historical articles on important vehicles. Johnny has a BA in History of Art. He currently lives in Norwich and has four children.

This is absolutely the ultimate book on these cars, great reading for anyone wether you are an owner or just an enthusiast, this book gives you the best there is to know about all 124 Sport models. Very well put-together history, great advice and tips on ownership, maintenance and restorarion, so this is absolutely essential. It made me love my Spider even more and I'm now beggining restoration of a Coupé inspired by this book!

Comprehensive, but all black and white

It was a gift for my stepfather who owns a 124 Spider. I just browsed through it so I'm not 100% knowledgeable about how good the content is. The table of contents did seem comprehensive. Maybe I missed it in the description, but I was a little surprised that the pics were all black and white. Either way, he said he loves the book.
