4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, enjoyable romance 5 Sept. 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Hot shot David Wolfe is determined to become his company's youngest ever VP. But to do so he needs to find someone to play the fiancée he's told his colleagues and boss about. Unfortunately, he's not a man who usually goes for the kind of woman that they would find acceptable.

Enter his sister's best friend. David hasn't seen Chelsea Hammond since she was a geeky teen so he's more than a little stunned by the sexy woman she's become and he suddenly finds it's not so difficult playing pretend. But is it really all for show?

This is a tried and tested storyline where what starts off as pretend turns into the real thing. That's fine with me because it's a storyline I enjoy and although not demanding or overly original, I enjoyed this one too.

I liked both David and Chelsea and thought their interactions were fun, interesting and quite true to life. I could have done with a little more emotion, especially with the realisation that it was love rather than just lust or infatuation. But overall, this is a book to escape with for a couple of hours. It's well written, romantic and perfect if you like a Blaze story. 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome contemporary romance 14 Sept. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read a lot of contemporary romances based around the 'fake relationship to fool boss/parents' trope and this one is definitely one of the better ones.

The guys were quite 2D but I liked the female characters and the story wasn't porn the way some of these can be. Probably one of my favourite mills & boon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick and easy read... 29 Sept. 2010
By Hopeless - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I bought this book as part of a bundle, so the price was better. I have to say the story was cute. I've read many stories where people make up boyfriends, fiance's etc, but this one stayed with me.

David lied to his boss telling him he was engaged. He did this because he wanted his bosses to consider him for a VP position. Only problem was, there was no such fiancee and he needed to produce one pronto! He asks his sister for help and his sister has the perfect candidate for him, her best friend from highschool Chelsea. Chelsea just got back from Paris where she became a cook. She wants to start her own business catering but does not have a place to stay or a big kitchen to get started. She reluctantly accepts the offer of pretending to be the fiancee. When David and Chelsea meet for the first time, David is taken back at how beautiful his sister's friend had turned to and she thought David looked just as handsome as he did 15 years ago. They go through their agreement pretending and playing house. They cannot help but feel attracted to each other and realize acting on their attraction is a complication neither of them can afford.

There is also another secondary love story within the story that was great. David was a nice guy, but he was had his flaws. Chelsea was a very likeable character. It was nice to see how they both overcame their issues to fight for their happily ever after. Fast and easy read!

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful contemporary romance 7 July 2010
By Harriet Klausner - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In Philadelphia, at Kepler, Van Horne Insurance, Co., David Wolfe needs a fiancée to obtain a promotion to partner at the family run firm. However, he has none and the myriad of women he dates or has dated would never do. He needs someone fresh.

Chef Chelsea Hammond, a friend of David's sister, needs a temporary place to crash to save expenses while starting a catering business. Though she is reluctant and hides her reason for doubt, they agree that she stays in his place in exchange she will pose as his fiancée with her added stipulation of "no contact". However, they end up making love and she falls in love with her faked fiancé, but he admits he is commitment-phobic.

Although the premise of a fake fiancée or "Occasional Wife" has been used a zillion times, Nancy Warren magically makes it fresh with a strong cast especially the support players like his sister and his co-workers who bring out the best and worst in the lead couple. Fans will relish this wonderful contemporary romance as the slow learner realizes why he reaches in his bed for a female phantom who never slept through the night there and the woman who wisely knows why.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not her best 7 April 2015

I've been on a bit of a binge of this author's work and I realise that I've been reading them in the order of 'most popular' so now I'm reading the not so great stuff. I was disappointed in this one because I know that Ms Warren writes well and I usually like her plots. This one is a bit one-sided in that the h has loved the H since she was a teenager but he was always a player and never noticed her. He's in a fix because he lied to his boss about having a fiancée so that he could disguise his womanising. He's up for a promotion and needs to produce his partner. Conveniently the h is just back from Paris and needs some help getting started. Mutually convenient arrangement and the H is a bit of a dog so he's hoping for some strings-free sex too. I didn't warm to the H and as I said I found the h all too ready to throw herself at him.

I'd skip this one and read one of Ms Warren's many other good books

3.0 out of 5 stars just okay 3 Feb. 2013

I don't know how I get sucked into these books with their ridiculous plot themes but I do. All I can say about the book is I had to look it up again to remind me of what exactly it was. That should tell you right there just how memorable it was. It's your typical plot line of boy needs fake fiancé, girl is willing and desperate enough to play the role, boy realizes he's shallow and a jerk but continues the charade in hopes for a roll in the hay, girl is a fool and gives in for one night, yada, yada, yada. Girl goes away, boy misses her and wants her back, blah, blah, blah. There are no deep characters here folks. I didn't feel for either of them and the ending wasn't earth shattering enough to make up for shallow jerk boy's behavior. I'm giving it a 3 out of 5 stars because I didn't hate it but frankly, I didn't remember it either.

Falling in love at 14? Foolishness, except it does happen. Does it last? When you get into your 20's it seems a dim hope. Chelsea doesn't' think so but David needs a fiance immediately and she's available. What's next?
