No repairs necessary 7 July 2004
By DiBosco VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
By the time of her fourth studio album, Shawn Colvin had markedly improved in both the tone and quality of her voice - now velvety rich - and her songwriting skills, which here produce an album full of truly memorable songs that vary widely in tempo and subject matter, but never in quality.

From the hugely gripping and uptempo rant of "Get of this house" to utterly heart wrenching sorrow of "If I were brave" the album runs the gamut of emotions and tempos of fabulous guitar pop music.

With a tinge of American folk, Colvin writes female singer-songwriter songs that you could bracket with the rockier side of Mary Chapin Carpenter or the more melodic side of Suzanne Vega.

It's also a beautifully produced album that highlights her excellent voice, but allows instruments to breathe and compliment the voice effortlessly.

For £6.99, you'd be mad not to!

A 'MUST HAVE' ALBUM 28 July 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is by far Shawn Colvins best album to date. it emphasises her talent, not only as a singer;her voice has an innocent, childlike quality; but also as a song writer. Tracks such as 'Get out of this house' are full of spite and anger without her having to resort to screaming down the mike or using a tirade of abuse, whilst songs such as '84,000 different dillusions' are so simple that it has an almost hypnotic quality. And check out 'Trouble', the melody is so thick, it could amlost swallow you whole. A must for any serious music lover.

By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Darker and more cynical than 'Fat City', this album is at first harder to get into, but worth it. 'Repairs' is far more subtle and personal than the earlier album, with Shawn's reflections on touring and success embodied in songs like 'New Thing Now' and the breathtaking 'If I were brave', which manages to combine a heartbreaking melody with lyrics easily as deep, dark and self-chastising as anything Tori Amos has produced. Whatever you do, make sure you get your hands on a copy which includes 'What I Get Paid For', co-written and performed with ex-Crowded Houser Neil Finn, which was removed from some US versions after copyright problems.
