Product Description

Review

"Since continuous electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) was introduced in the 1970s and caesarean section rates skyrocketed without any improvement in perinatal mortality or morbidity, the search has been on to improve cardiotocography (CTG) interpretation. This quest rests on the premise that improving interpretation will lower the false positive rate of EFM.

Gibb and Arulkumaran have been at the forefront of the challenge with this, the second edition of their book... Importantly, it bases CTG interpretation in real clinical scenarios that highlight the importance of judging each case on the full clinical picture. It covers normal and abnormal traces comprehensively with additional chapters on fetal blood sampling and alternative methods of fetal surveillance.
"MIDIRS Midwifery Digest, Vol 9 No 2, June 1999 --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

"The whole book reflects a sensible and accessible approach to the subject. The diagrams are clear and concise and help support the main text. This is overall, a book to keep near to hand where babies are being born.?

My son's CTG was pathological for nearly two hours before he was born. Three midwives reviewed the CTG trace during that time and failed to notice(!) If only they had read this. He has epilepsy and severe expressive language delay. I might send a copy of this book to where they still practice.

If you are a midwifery student this book is completely worth getting. It is easy to read and explains CTG's in an understandable way. Helps a lot in practice on the acute wards.
