I thought 'Only Men Aloud' were terrific on the 'Last Choir Standing' TV programme in 2008, but, as with any performer whether solo or group, only time would tell if the high level of singing could be maintained. Well the 2011 Christmas album (In Festive Mood
) shows that time has proved that this group of talented singers have what it takes to be top-of-the-tree for many years to come.
I would have liked there to be more songs on the album than just 12, but each track has been beautifully arranged to show off the singers' skills.
My favourite track? It has to be 'O Holy Night' - one of my favourite songs of all time, so well arranged and sung, from the enjoyment it brought, it could have been a new song all together.
The most disappointing track? It has to bee 'In the Bleak Mid Winter'. I love this song but it seems that arrangers these days all want to have it sung to different tunes rather than to Holst's 'Cranham'. I would have loved to hear this choir sing that version.
Can I recommend it? Oh Yes!!
