5.0 out of 5 stars A gift that has lasted a lifetime 9 Mar 2008
By G-mum
Format:Paperback
A friend gave me this book as a gift when my daughters were small and it was an inspiration. Now my children are grown up and each time one of their friends starts a family they give this book as a gift. My daughters both work with children and are still referring to my very battered copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Festivals family and food 14 April 2009
Format:Paperback
An excellent book, the bible of festivals in our family, we have tried and tested many of the recipes in that book according to the right time of the year. The children have enjoyed going round the year, making some of the craft projects featured in that book. It is a must have book for every family who regards homemaking as a important part of their children's every day lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing! 2 Jun 2005
Format:Paperback
A 'must have' for the family library - brings a new dimension into family life and takes you through the year with activities, crafts, music, great ideas, and baking. I can't speak highly enough of this book - always something new to look forward in every season of the year, my 4 children love this book and taking part in all the activities. The whole book feels like a holiday celebration. Found it as an excellent resource book when childminding.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok. 5 Dec 2010
By Very.
Format:Paperback
I keep trying to like this book; but I don't.
It seems very mishy mashy; with no real structure and I'm not a fan of the stories for the most part and I'm not overly keen on the songs either.

I am pagan so there's a lot that isn't really applicable - although I thought I'd be able to adapt as most of the major (christain) festivals the book covers fall on or near pagan festivals. And there are nods to other cultures and religions - but it does feel just that - a nod.

I think my main gripe is simply the layout of the book - I think it could do with a serious re-edit and categorising the ideas with in the book.... and most of the crafts in the book and recipes are available online through various waldrofy blogs and websites.

Personally I wouldn't recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars good family book 15 Sep 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love this book because of all the different aspects it covers when it comes to different seasons and festivals throughout the year: food, activities, songs...
