This is a gentle story of a fox who worries as his favourite tree loses its leaves with the changing seasons. The language is rich and descriptive and the real strength of this book is the enchanting pictures, an appealing little fox, pretty blended autumnal colours changing into the cooler bluer shades of winter and the final page: a glittery delight, a magical icicle finale. Beautiful.

I 1st heard this story on c beebies bedtime hour and thought it was such a lovely story i immediately tried to source it on amazon. Unfortunately it was out of stock for quite some time but luckily this autumn i managed to order it as a christmas present for my little boy. The story is lovely as the little fox learns all about autumn and the fact the leaves are falling off the trees doesnt mean the tree cant be beautiful, as the last page reveals! My only niggle is i wish i had bought the hardback copy as the illustrations are not as good and does take the edge off it slightly but a lovely story non the less.

This is a fantastic book, the artwork is brilliant and the story is really touching. I think I love it even more than the kids. A fox doesn't understand why his favourite tree is losing all its leaves and he tries to help in a variety of ways. When the last leaf falls he tucks it up in a homemade bed to keep it safe, so cute! A fabulous end with a sparkly surprise!!

Probably my favourite book ever. I love the story and the illustrations, but the language is incredible for a book aimed at little ones. The author uses sophisticated yet simple words and phrases to create beautiful and evocative images. I got this book for my daughter when she was two years old and she loves it.

I read this book to my Reception Class and it is absolutely enchanting. Gorgeous pictures, a sweet story and lots of lovely language e.g. "They [the leaves] tossed and turned and twitched and twirled and tumbled to the ground". I have now ordered the other Ferdie books to read to the children and can't wait till they arrive.
Highly recommended.

My daughter introduced me to this delightful book - the last picture with the "frost" is lovely. I have now bought the Christmas book in the series.

This is a lovely heart warming story with soft illustrations that show the changing hues of autumn. My children loved the story and the sparkly treed.
