Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Building on the success of previous versions, Championship Manager 3 has to be the most comprehensive football management game on the market. With a choice of 15 different leagues, there is no shortage of talent for you to manage and you can search for individual players around the world to boost your team. CM3 is a management simulator, rather than an arcade-style football game.

The management options available are very comprehensive--playing in the English Premier League, West Ham's new manager started a strong season with successive losses until he was finally sacked by the management staff. Following a period of brief unemployment, he then moved to Second Division Walsall who had a vacancy and continued with little success. Patience, strategic planning and consideration of the long-term outcomes are all central to successful management of your team.

With many management games it's easy to lose interest, but CM3 is not one of those. Because of the comprehensiveness, this game is seriously addictive and it is all too easy to lose track of time whilst fighting to avoid relegation.

If you are interested in the management side of the beautiful game and fancy something that requires tactical meditation and detailed strategic planning, Championship Manager 3 will be right up your street. --Chris Hall

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and gripping, 23 Sep 2000

This review is from: Championship Manager 3 (Video Game)
Championship Manager allows you to see whether you really are better than the manager of your favourite team. It covers all the main leagues around the world and a few more besides. So you can take charge of Manchester United, Barcelona or Juventus, or guide your favourite lower-league team into the Premiership. At first sight it can be quite daunting, but once you get to grips with it you'll play the game with relative ease. Your responsibilities as manager range from buying and selling players and devising training schedules, to keeping your finances in check. This ensures that the challenge of the game is not confined to playing matches and you always have to pay attention to the bigger picture. The level of challenge varies from team-to-team as finances and resources differ and the expectations of your board are wildly varied. Reflecting real-life management players also suffer long-term injuries, demand exorbitant wages, and fall out with their manager. You can't succeed as a manager without winning games, and this is where the cleverness of CM really shines. You get to select tactics and can even assign specific tasks to each of your players. If things aren't going well, or you need that vital goal, then you can substitute players or change your formation. No match is the same, so quitting and re-loading it to replay a match will guarantee a different result, even with the same tactics played. The lack of graphical action does not detract from the excitement of the match. The rolling commentary is more than enough and builds up excitement and tension as the game progresses. Much better than championship Manager 1 and 2 and offers a truly gripping game.So if you want to pit your wits against the world's best managers, buy a truly great football management game.

You know a game is good where you're so involved in it that hours fly by. One minute your watch says 9pm and the next you hear the birds singing! Championship Manager 99/00 has to rank as my favourite game on the Mac since Civilization II!
