Product Description

Product Description

FEOFFEES' LANDS is the latest studio album by Jacqui McShee's Pentangle. The album fuses traditional English songs with sophisticated jazzy grooves. The line-up is Jacqui McShee (vocals), Gerry Conway (drums and percussion), Spencer Cozens (keyboards), Gary Foote (saxes), Alan Thomson (bass). Guest artists include Martin Barre, Miles Bould, Nathan Bray, Barnaby Dickinson, John Giblin, David Hughes, Leah McShee Jackson and Ravi. The album was engineered by Mark Tucker, produced by Jacqui McShee, Gerry Conway and Spencer Cozens and recorded between January and March 2005 at The Presshouse Studio, Devon. The location supplied the title: The Presshouse Studio is on land which was confiscated by Henry VIII from the Marquis of Exeter in 1539 and then 'enfeoffed' to the Parish of Colyton (the word 'enfeoffed' comes from the same root as fiefdom). Tracks: Banks Of The Nile / Nothing Really Changes / The Acrobat / Now's The Time / Hot Air - Hot Night / No Sweet Sorrow / Sovay / Two Magicians / You've Changed / Broomfield Hill.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not up to par 16 Dec 2006

I've liked most of the "new pentangle" but this CD is about 50% light jazz. The jazzy treatments of classic folk numbers are an interesting extension of Pentangle's original folk-rock (or was it really folk jazz??) fusion from decades ago. However, the jazz is not especially interesting and doesn't really form a good venue for Jacqui McShee's still lovely singing. Some of her other recent recordings are better than this one (Passe Avant and At the Little Theatre are both good)
