Truly an amazing torch, light weight but its brilliantly built. The USB cover requires a little force but then again it's a water proof cover so that really isn't an issue.

Customer service from these guys is incredible, my query was answered almost instantly, had a nice conversation with the guy about the torch so his product knowledge was great.

I really am glad about this purchase.

Update; only had to charge it twice since I brought it

Fenix tend to produce good kit, and this is no exception - bright, sturdy and with the option of a battery that can be charged while still in the torch. It's flexible enough to run on CR123As as well - the only drawback is that the usb port for built-in charging has a horribly fiddly rubber seal, which is tricky to replace.

A range of light outputs, good battery life and a well-shaped beam.

Great light, best price 20 Jun 2014
By J. Taylor - Published on Amazon.com

Despite the incorrect description, I ordered this item June 2014 and did receive the correct Fenix UC40UE light.
The light is excellent for what I wanted - Rechargeable, great size for a duty belt, extremely bright, nice beam pattern, and quality I have come to know Fenix for having. The only drawback to the light after my first night of carrying it is that the button IS hard to locate quickly, being on the side and not raised much, unlike my Fenix TK-41's buttons. The button must be depressed for approx 0.5sec before the light comes on and held for 0.5sec for the light to turn off. Holding the button while on or off, strobe mode is entered until the button is again released. UI was non-intuitive until I read the manual, but now it's a synch to operate.

Features and Details Do Not Match Product. 12 April 2014
By JOHN WILKE - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this product and it has only a single bulb in it. The Fenix UC40UE uses Lithium Ion batteries not AA and is rechargeable via USB port. Great Flashlight if you get the UC40UE. Older models of UC40 are not rechargeable or 960 lumens Bright.
Very powerful for a relatively small light 24 Jun 2014

I fired this up for the first time tonight and wandered around my rural property with it. It is pretty impressive given its size and weight.

I'd say it is optimized more for "flood" rather than "throw." At full output (<900 lumens) I would estimate the maximum effective range to be about 100 yds. with quite a bit of illumination of the surrounding area. This is a reasonable design choice for a general-purpose light. Shining it up my street, which only has streetlights about every 200 yds., it illuminated both lanes pretty well out to about 100 yds. on full output. I would imagine that, even at the next level down (400 lm) it would still illuminate something in the road nearly that far out, though. The street was empty when I did this, and illuminating asphalt is hardly representative of a light's capabilities. Now Fenix claim much higher distances even at medium output, ("204m @ 110 lm"!!) but we don't know what their parameters are; I'm thinking of being able to identify an object, person or animal.

The settings seem well chosen. 10 lm is great for reading a map or your watch; 110 is about right for general use, while 400 should light up an average back yard pretty effectively. The strobe would be devastating at close range.

USB charging is an excellent feature and one appearing on more Fenix lights. The ability to use a couple of CR123 batteries in a pinch is an added bonus.

I have just a couple of minor quibbles. Perhaps it is just dryness due to older hands, but I could use a rubberized grip. Also, I find the small ON/OFF/LEVEL switch a little hard to find in the dark. (This is the same switch as on the PD32, where I don't have this problem, for some reason.) I don't know how this could be improved; perhaps a larger "pad" with more texture? Making it bright yellow would probably help in low light as well. But these are small details. Overall I'm impressed.
Quite possibly the best flashlight ever 4 Aug 2014

This flashlight is awesome. If you were able to focus the beam it would be the best flashlight ever. Although I miss the tail switch, being able to charge this flashlight with my Samsung cell phone charger is worth it.
