Fenix TK41, excellent torch,
This review is from: Fenix TK41 / the first brightest XM flashlight with max 800 lumens (Sports)
Having owned this torch for over a month, I thought I'd write a review. If you've never used an LED torch before, or used a cheap one, this torch will amaze you. The beam on full power is so bright that it can illuminate things almost half a kilometer away. The centre of the beam is very bright, and there is enough spill to make it useful for just plain walking around at night. The pros: Most super bright LED torches use CR123A or rechargeable lithium batteries at the moment. This torch uses 8x88 batteries (although it will work on 4, too) making it easy to replace the batteries wherever you are. I'd hate to take a lithium powered torch away and find I had no access to mains electricity! You also get high capacity, so a longer run time. 8 AA batteries rated at 2900mAh each, compared to one or two lithium cells with roughly the same rating. Think about it! The construction is also brilliant, and it really can be submerged in water, as lots of youtube videos will demonstrate. The power modes are well spaced, and even the lowest brightness is adequate for walking around in pitch black, meaning you can use the torch for extended periods without worrying about battery life. Mentioning the power modes, there are 4 levels, and not 6 as advertised. Two of the modes are strobe modes, a high frequency strobe, and an SOS (it flashes SOS in morse). Another thing I really enjoyed is that the torch will not roll around if you lie it flat, and if you stand it on its tail in a room during a power cut, you can light the whole room. The cons: This torch is large, so its not the kind of light you'd find yourself throwing in your pocket just in case you needed it. This is because of the AA battery configuration. Overall: If you want a big torch, with easily replaced batteries and a long beam, and don't mind a large form factor, this is the torch for you. If you want a torch that will throw a really long beam, this is for you, too. However, the large beam may be ideal for searching for stuff, but if you just want a bright spill for walking around, you may want to consider something else, the narrow spot in the middle means that the maximum 800 lumens has been quite focused. For good spill from a fenix torch, you can try the small PD series. If you want the same light with lithium batteries, you can try the TK35. A fantastic torch all considered.

Fantastic torch for professional use,
This review is from: Fenix TK41 / the first brightest XM flashlight with max 800 lumens (Sports)
This torch is really an upgrade from cheaper flashlights I've been acquainted with until now. I got it for my boyfriend after having heard him discuss the benefits of having a professional flashlight and what lumens measure. I have to admit I am new to the refined differences between flashlights, but I definitely saw the difference when he took me walking at dark to show me all the levels and the various lumen levels between them.I want to say thank you to the previous reviewer who took the time to describe the pros of the product in such details. Due to his review I knew to purchase a set of rechargeable AA batteries to have for the flashlight and it convinced me that this one was the perfect gift. I saw for myself the SOS mode and found it very impressive and useful for whenever you go hiking and get lost or other emergency situations. The beam is really powerful and after buying it I did search on youtube and there are several videos illustrating aspects such as the water-resistance and how it can light well through water (I can imagine losing something in shallow water and needing light o find it.). High-end product for those who are in the know and require a professional flashlight!

Holy Moly,
By L. Benningfield "Beryllium" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fenix TK41 / the first brightest XM flashlight with max 800 lumens (Sports)
First let me say I love flashlights. I own all kinds and brands and I am always looking for the next cool light. But of all the brands I have or have had, this is my first of the Fenix brand. I am so impressed that I am making this my first Amazon review.Build Quality: Very very nice. The flashlight feels solid in my hand. It has plenty of knurling so that even when wet it will be easy to hold onto. The light is smaller then you would expect, being an eight AA light. The flashlight uses a carriage to hold the batteries. When loaded and inside the flashlight there was no rattle. It is rated to IPX-8 waterproof standards to 2 meters (6.5 feet). Light Output: Wow! Seriously, WOW! 800 lumens in the turbo mode. It won't cook a cheeseburger from across the room but it looks like it could! This flashlight is just stupid bright. It provides an enormous amount of light and throws this light very very far. I was able to illuminate a road sign 400+ yards away. While this is a "thrower" light more then a "flood" light, most practical use will be within 100 yards. This flashlight provides ample spill light so that it can be used for "area" work. If you enjoy seeing what your looking at and not a "wall of white", use one of the lower modes when working up close. Battery Life: I found battery life to be very good as well. I was able to get over 2 hours runtime on turbo, with usable light for an hour afterwards. Very good considering how powerful the XM-L led emitter is. I am using NiMh AA batteries but the light supports alkaline and lithium disposable batteries as well. My verdict: A top notch but expensive flashlight. I however find that it was worth the money. Fantastic build quality and insanely bright. I am very impressed with my first Fenix flashlight and would buy this brand again. 31 of 31 people found the following review helpful:

Best thrower I own,
By trooplewis - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fenix TK41 / the first brightest XM flashlight with max 800 lumens (Sports)
I own a lot of flashlights, most of them are Surefire-sized lights, and smaller AA and AAA lights. The TK41 is the biggest light I own, it is a "traditional" flashlight size, like the old 2D Ray-O-Vacs, which I like. What I like; -Side clicky switch; I'm tired of the rear-clicky on most tactical lights, side is much easier to use -Nice heft and feel, I like the size -Great build quality, very solid. The emitter in mine is off-center, but that does not seem to affect the beam -Incredible thrower! This thing puts out more light on Turbo mode than anything I own, and it is a pretty generous-sized hotspot -I use Eneloops in it, but I like that it will take AA's if I need to -Very low mode that is supposedly good for 270 hours runtime. -On High (as opposed to Turbo) you have all the light you usually will ever need -Tailstands nicely -Waterproof (tested mine underwater) -It will light up the night, for a long distance! -You don't have to mess with the blinky modes if you don't want to. -Nice white beam at the hotspot. Corona is somewhat greenish indoors against a white wall, but you will never notice that outside. -Comes with extra "O" rings and a nice lanyard, in a nice plastic carry-case. What I don't like -Expensive (but worth it) -A little tricky on how to get into the blinky modes, but I don't use them so does not matter to me. This thing will not disappoint you 26 of 27 people found the following review helpful:

A good step-up from the TK40,
By Fred C. Mcclanahan "Agent-19" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fenix TK41 / the first brightest XM flashlight with max 800 lumens (Sports)
Fenix lights are always good in my opinion and my only complaint with the previous model - the TK40 - was the too-wide beam pattern. This uses a new emitter and a polished reflector and provides a beam throw and pattern that for me are "just right."Some don't like the 8-AA battery holder system but I find it very handy and easy to use. Oh, did I mention that it's BRIGHT!!! IMPORTANT: If you use this product, I strongly suggest that you invest in the Maha Powerex MH-C801D charger for AA and AAA batteries and two sets of Sanyo Eneloop batteries - both available on Amazon. This charger charges the batteries properly without overheating them and will give you long battery life. If you need to charge C and D NiMh batteries, get the MH-808M charger. |
