Book Description

1 Aug 2008
Feng Shui Assassin is an urban fantasy thriller that takes an unusual twist on holistic attitudes. A Met Police Detective on the trail of an ice cold killer - discovering clues that make no sense but that keeps turning up dead bodies.

The assassin uses feng shui to kill his targets - murders disguised as a suicide or accident. He is on a bloody path to avenge the death of his sister.

DC Amanda Morgan is the detective that stumbles upon a suspicious suicide and refuses to give up on the investigation. When further unexplained deaths occur, Amanda pieces the clues together and discovers that all the victims are trustees on the Valentine Trust.

Mr Duvalier is the lawyer for the Valentine Trust. Charming and obstructive - he has his own agenda for the trust.

Soon everyone is caught up in a race against time and the shocking revelations when they come face to face with the consequences of their actions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly written, deserves more attention 14 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had thought (and still think) it was independently published-the backliner and cover certainly suggest it is, although it's unclear from the title page-but the writing is as good as any put out by the major publishing companies, and the premise is fun, original and perfectly realised. It really should have been picked up and properly promoted because it is an excellently constructed book, gripping, energetic, entertaining and with exactly the right combination of darkness and humour, and deserves the widest possible audience. Despite not being a believer in Feng Shui I was drawn in completely, only pausing in credulity when the origami assassin put in a startling appearance, before accepting it as the tongue-in-cheek reality check that it was and marching merrily into the new twist.

There were some minor editing errors (at one stage Harvey was "pouring over" a document, and the word "midrift" put in two appearances) which might have been avoided in the hands of a traditional publisher with a full editing team. I also found the ending to be a little abrupt and unsatisfying. But when I finally put down the book I found myself wondering which major publishing house was going to pick up on Adrian Hall first, and whether he had any more ideas as offbeat and appealing as the Feng Shui assassin concept with which to tempt them. Definitely one to watch.

What can you say about a book like Feng Shui Assassin? Thoroughly enjoyable, a magnificent main character with plenty of twists and sub plots to keep the reader enthralled. This is a book that is extremely difficult to put down, a brilliant read and for anyone into the fantasy genre, it's one that will definitely be put on the shelf for re-reading time after time
