Product Description

Product Description

To mark the 60th anniversary of Fender, Backbeat's introduced a new, completely revised third edition of this bestseller. Fender guitars have long been the instruments of choice for artists such as Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. This book tells the complete story of Fender guitars, detailing classics such as the Telecaster, Stratocaster & Jazzmaster as well as lesser-known models. Dozens of photos reveal Fender's storied craftsmanship, while the text includes collector details for all models. The reference section lists all models and their statistics. This new edition has been refreshed and updated, with 56 extra pages and over 60 new photographs. The main text has added material and has been brought up to date to cover Fender's ever-changing history amid the fascinating developments for the company and its instruments during the eight years since the previous edition.

Like Adrian Ingram, Tony Bacon has demonstrated consistently for over 30 years that his grasp of 'all things guitar' is outstanding. This book on the Fender range of guitars is part of that canon of work that is a must-have for the 'guitar-nut', collector and player. In this book, Bacon like Ingram retains his tried and trusted format of looking at the genesis and progression of a guitar or brand through time, in this case Fender guitars, giving us superb details about the Fender range and what made it what it is today. The illustrations in the book underscore the text with subtle and fascinating illucidation; and both the text and illustrations work beautifully together. If you want or own a Fender guitar, this book is for you. If you don't, you'll sure want one, even need one, after reading it. Another first-class book!

This is an excellent book for all the Fender nuts out there!! I have several books about Fender in my musical library but this is one of the good ones. It is lavishly illustrated and fills in one or two of the gaps left by other books. I have several books on the Strat but this deals with the entire range of Fender instruments. Well worth the money to enhance your knowledge of the Fender company. I would say that it is not a definitive history, warts and all, but if you put it together with the other available books on the subject it does help to complete the picture! Very pleased with it.

Tremulant 27 May 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is not a bad book by means, but any Fender book written by Mr. Bacon, always seems to have a reference to the 'tremolo' system invented by Leo Fender, and how he chose the name in error. I would imagine all those years ago, possibly before Tony Bacon was born, Leo came up with the name Tremolo, probably from the Italian word tremulant, Latin based,(read up on it, make your own mind up). The 'tremolo unit' can do a great deal for the accomplished user, and of course, produce a vibrato effect, as of course the human voice can.
That said, this a good read, well written, with excellent illustrations, and quite informative.
