Biography

Joss Stone has been obsessed with soul music since she was a little girl. By the time she was in her early teens she had begun to intuitively hone her now trademark gravelly-but-lustrous vocals by singing along to Aretha’s Franklin’s Greatest Hits. She began pursuing a singing career at thirteen, securing a record deal at 15, and recording her star-making debut album, The Soul ... Read more in Amazon's Joss Stone Store

There has been alot of controversy surrounding this young girl. How can a white 16 year old girls be the new Aretha Franklin? Well she may not match the success that Aretha had but man can this girl sing a tune. With scorching yet soulful vocals and a funky slammin beat this cover of the White Stripes `fell in love with a girl` is absolutely amazing.
Joss proves that her vocals can match all of the contemporary greats including Christina, Stacie Orrico and Mariah. Unlike screamuleira however this girl doesnt have to wail her head off until our heads and her lungs explode. She belts the tune out in the right places while the rest she uses a sweet sounding mesmerising low tone.
This is a must buy if ever there was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Despite what certain reviews have said, it is undeniable that Joss Stone is a 'tour de force' rarely seen in the music world (and this is just the beginning)
The fact that the song itself is a remake it irrelevant and Personally, I think the cover is better, but cannot be compared, either way she can sing and she sings with soul...
Agreed the musical state in the UK is lamentable but Joss Stone is actually refreshing to hear, her music not manufactured souless r&b, pop.......
To me, it's soul in it's purest most simple form and what a voice!!!!! Sends shivers down my spine.... I love it!

This is an absolutely outstanding debut single taken from an outstanding debut album - Soul Sessions. I just can't believe this girl is only 16 years of age. She has such an amazing voice and though her album is filled with covers, she has completely made them her own and they are unrecognizable. I can't wait till we hear some original material from this natural, born superstar. Joss Stone will become the new face of British Music in 2004.

If ever a single summed up the current lamentable state of the British music industry, it’s this; a record in which the White Stripes’ Fell In Love With a Girl is stripped of all its energy, given a bland nu-soul makeover and performed by a photogenic sixteen-year old girl.
It’s hard to say what’s most irritating about this odious piece of effluent. It might be Stone’s irritating attempts to sound like Billie Holliday, which involve putting on an American accent, using several notes per syllable and prouncing “repeating” as “repayteehhhng”; it might be the replacement of the line “Bobby says it’s fine” with “Sarah says it’s fine”, thus transposing the song from it’s original backwoods redneck milieu to a Devon grammar school; or, most likely, it might just be the subtext that music is more palatable when performed by attractive young ladies and when it isn’t likely to put one’s guests off their polenta.
Truly, truly contemptible in every respect.
