Steve Turner's first book of poetry for children is a delightful collection of thought provoking, quirky, humorous verse. I have shared many of the poems with my class of 6 year olds, who loved who begged for more, but there is something in this book for everybody - even grown ups! Many of the poems are really fast paced, and seem to capture the sheer exuberance of young children - just read The Jumping Game or I can't sit still! for example. Steve Turner has an ability to appeal to a child's sense of fun, and yet also write poems which deal with life's big questions. The book is illustrated throughout with David Mostyn's excellent drawings which complement Steve's style perfectly. For me, Steve Turner's collection illustrates the power, beauty and sheer fun of words... a book that's worth every penny!

Good stuff 29 Jan 2006

Steve Turner manages to capture an excellent sense of humour which children love. I've used this in my class with 8 year olds and they love it. There are also some poems which make brief references to God, but still in a fun way.

Fantastic book 25 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this for my daughter after she said she enjoyed some poems in her homework book - and after I had read reviews on Amazon. The first, main review is spot on - I got home tonight from work and she has already read the whole book through, and picked out some of her favourites. She loves this book, and its pitched just right, she is able to read the poems fluently and talk about what they mean (her dad nearly knows some off by heart too - since she spent the day reciting them aloud!). A brilliant buy, and I will definately look at some more of Steve Turner's books because I know she loves it so much. The best thing about books of poems is that they can be revisited time and again, so its well worth buying - especially at this time of year, little stocking fillers!
