Product Description

CD Description

Felix s Machines are music making sculptures. The project was first constructed in Felix s bedroom as small music making machines and has since grown into an ensemble of contraptions built for installations and live performance. The Machines have been exhibited worldwide, appeared on the latest Cadbury commercial and performed in collaborations with acclaimed artists such as Plaid. The EP is Lumin s debut release and introduces a series of recordings in the early life of The Machines. Each track demonstrates stages of their mechanical and musical development. Accumulated from live gallery installations and studio spaces, the EP leads you into a stimulating and seductive world where machines come to life; a contemporary Fantasia of digital production and music technology. The Machines lead the listener through a blend of melodic chimes, detuned percussion and hinted narratives to an unfamiliar experience; the exciting new world of Felix and his Machines. It was one of the more surreal moments of the recent TEDGlobal conference when a dismantled piano animated by springs, solenoids and motors started tinkling away in the austere setting of Oxford's Sheldonian Theatre Wired It's all about aesthetic and sensory pleasure Lodown Magazine Building odd musical sculptures Felix Thorn has created wholly interactive pieces that respond to live music Dazeddigital Felix Thorn s self built deconstructed instruments create an experiment of live amplification and processing, marrying acoustic robotics and digital synthesis in harmony to create an exquisite transitory performance Inverted Audio It is all quite beautiful, like a dark fairytale, and funny too. a-n magazine
