Product Description

The Secret to Contented Cats! The Feliway Refill plugs direct into your Diffuser (sold separately) can be left plugged in all the time, building up the pheromones in the room (up to 50-70m2), one vial lasting up to 4 weeks. Feliway mimics the natural pheromone that a Cat leaves as scent marks when they rub their faces against furniture and doorways to show they are somewhere they feel is safe and reassuring. Like the natural pheromone, Feliway encourages the Cat to come back home to rest and recuperate.Feliway can be used to reduce stress and its consequences, such as loss of appetite, reduced playfulness and lack of interaction. Feliway is also clinically proven to help problem behaviour in Cats such as indoor urine marking, destructive scratching and fear of travel. These signs of stress are often: when a new Cat, or another pet is introduced to the home when Cats with different personalities have to share the same home when Cats go somewhere stressful, like the Cattery or vets when Cats experience change, such as moving house or when owners are away on holiday when travelling by car, boat or plane when the home is more busy or noisy than the Cat cam cope with e.g. Christmas, during family visits etc

My eldest cat enjoys the nightlife and never wants to stay in once darkness falls, except when it is pouring with rain. Unfortunately she had to have her tail removed after being shot and, despite having to wear a collar for two weeks (to prevent licking the wound), she would not settle in the house at night. After a few sleepless nights (us) during which she dragged at carpets, doors and anything else she could get to, our vet suggested we try Feliway.

The diffuser plugs into a normal socket and the emitted scent is designed to be soothing to cats (I could detect a very faint odour but nothing unpleasant or overpowering). They are designed to work one per room and with a door closed ideally - we allow our cats to go everywhere so put one in the room where our cat normally sleeps and two more in other parts of the house. She did seem to settle more subsequently and we were able to reduce medical sedation and pain relief as well (and also get more rest ourselves).

The Feliway diffuser worked for our cat and if you have a cat that needs to be calmed down post-operatively, I would certainly give this a try. The instructions also suggest it can be used to reduce stress at other times, such as when there are fireworks, but the unit needs to be plugged in for a few days before it becomes fully effective, so it needs to be bought in advance ideally.

This is the refill for the Diffuser, which you need to purchase separately (one unit comes with the diffuser).

We started using feliway for my 12 year old female house cat this autumn as she became unwell during the summer following some unavoidable disruption and upheaval including repeated travelling and new furniture being moved into our home. She was stressed and worried, and this manifested itself physically in the form of repeated bouts of cystitis -which, as any cat owner who has witnessed this will know, is very upsetting for everyone involved and can leave an owner feeling quite helpless.

A vet at out local practice treated her several times with antibiotic injections and metacalm (which made me a little uneasy). These treatments were successful only in the short term and her cystitis recurred several times. Therefore, I researched several options in the hope that we could successfully tackle the underlying causes in the long term rather than merely treating the obvious and painful recurrent symptoms. After speaking with another vet we started her on cystease capsules and got her a feliway diffuser plug-in. As we started these treatments at the very same time I cannot attribute the success to one or the other with absolute certainty. However, after using the plug-in (and cystease) for about three months I'm thrilled to report that my cat has been happy and well with no sign of the cystitis. (Paws very much crossed that this continues!)

I do feel that the feliway plug-in has made my timid wee house cat less stressed and much more relaxed -I feel that is has really benefited her and, though all cats are different, I would recommend that it is at least worth trying out.

It really works! 22 Nov 2011

Having worked in a veterinary practice for 9 years, I was well aware that this product was available but a) I didn't think there'd ever be any reason for me to use it and b) I was a bit sceptical anyway! However, due to my 8 year old cat suddenly excessively grooming herself to the point that she had licked herself raw, I turned to the Feliway diffuser as a desperate last resort....and it has worked wonders! The excessive grooming stopped almost immediately after plugging in the diffuser, and her fur has grown back - you'd never know that there had ever been a problem. I would definitely recommend this product!

Good Outcome
I've used this product for a while and it does help to calm the Kitties. On face value it is expensive but it's hard to put a price on peace and quiet.
