Fan's of Byrne will love this. Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne teams with Morcheeba, Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo and the Balanescu Quartet on this album. The songs on this album range from the stylish single 'Miss America' to the quirky melody of the Sid and Nancy Love Affair in 'They are in Love', to the rock of 'The Civil Wars'. The songs mix Byrne's unique style with that of the contributing artists to form a CD that has many different styles and sounds and yet there is consistency throughout created by Byrne's songwriting and lyrics. Fans of the contributing artists will enjoy this, and the mix of styles mean that many other people will enjoy this. Fans of Bjork, Talking Heads, Blur, and Kraftwerk will find something on this they will like.

Like a lot music fans, I knew David Byrne's work with Talking Heads, but I was unfamiliar with his solo work until I picked up a copy of this cd from a market stall. I bought it because I'd heard one track, 'Dance on Vaseline,' and I really liked it so I thought I'd see if the rest of the album was any good. Any good? It's brilliant. I've since collected every David Byrne album I can find and, though some might think it heretical, I actually think his solo work is superior to the stuff he did with Talking Heads. This is a really tight, well put together, beautifully crafted collection of songs, full of light and shade, making use of different musicians and instruments to perfectly compliment the lyrics. Those lyrics reflect Byrne's quirky, touching, sometimes dark, sometimes humorous observations of modern life, love, politics, commerce and culture. 'Miss America,' 'Wicked Little Doll,' 'Burnt by the Sun' and the exquisite 'They are in Love' are stand-out tracks for me, but every track on the album is a gem in its own right. It baffles me that music this good can be so widely ignored. Of the 2000 or so albums I own, this is one of my ten favourites. That's how good it is. Go on, give it a try.

Byrne's best solo work. His strongest most consistent collection of songs since that other band he used to be in. If anyone asks you to nominate a David Byrne LP to start off their collection, 'Feelings' is the one to tell them.

So worn out I had to get a new one 31 Mar 2000
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have 100's of CD's and this is the only CD I carry in my briefcase at all times. "Dance on Vaseline" is my favourite track and is so pleasureable (that voice, hypnotic/sexual!). For a relatively recent work this has a great variation in styles tying the David Byrne of old and the Brazilian new together with amazing synergy. This CD is so exceptional that I have worn it out and had to get a new one. The music is gorgeous and thoughtful and the lyrics are powerful. Once again David Byrne proves himself to be my favourite artist, an artist who has enchanted me since 1983 when I was first introduced to the music of Talking Heads. If you believe you are an intelligent listener, take a punt, you won't be disappointed.

"Feelings" is worth your attention 11 Sep 2005
By J. Holmes - Published on Amazon.com

this takes a few listens to get accustomed to. but once you get settled, it's a nice ride. tropicalia, electronica, folktronica(?) alot of unique influence and it could have been a giant mess. but david pulls it together to form a cohesive album whose results are touching, and sometimes humorous. my favorite song would no doubt be "A Soft Seduction." great lyrics to that one. the cover and design concept is also quite great. my only complaint is that it could have been alot more streamlined and better if it were about 3-4 songs less. but all the songs are nice and it would have been hard to choose the ones to leave off. good go, then!

It's OK. 14 May 1998

This CD doesn't work that well for me. Many of the song seem to drone a bit. I think I like vocals that are a little more musical. That said, I still have played this CD multiple times. I guess maybe I like it a little better than I'm admitting. :>)

Restores my faith in 90s music. 22 July 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I love this CD. I can't stop listening to it. Especially beloved are "Finite=Alright" and "Miss America", but all the songs are excellent. As I listen to the album again and again, I am growing more and more fond of the other songs, which perhaps aren't as catchy right off the bat.
I bought this CD not long after asking myself one day, "Why is there no good new music anymore?" Now I know that there is great new music out there, you just have to go hunting for it.
Buy this CD! It's wonderful. It's fuzzy-freaky. And the CD case color-codes the mood of each song. Brilliant!

¿Did David get his melting-pop musical goal? 8 April 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Byrne have spendt a lot of time looking for a music that melt his rocker heritage and his increasing contacts into the Latin's soul. Since Rei Momo, when Byrne was joint with stars like Celia Cruz, Willy Colón and Johnny Pachecho, he tried to find a point wich avoid the coexistence of all those things he was discovering. Now, almost ten years later, this oustrageous musician seems to be confortable in a sonic place that he and his fans like. I'm a hispanic and I appreciate that he had coming here -to our world- to mix his music with our sounds and build something that works for everyone. Thanks!
