First off, I am not a fan of Chaka's career, so this review is totally un-bias as i don't have any fan-loyalty or anything like that that made me give this album 5 stars
I can't remember how, but a few years ago i heard the song 'I feel for you' and loved that so i decided to get the studio album that it was on, my mum had the greatest hits so there wasnt much point in buying another one for the song, but i wanted the song i feel for you on a CD of my own. Anyway, for a couple of years i only listend to the one song, then i discoverd that anastacia (who i was listening to a lot of at the time) done a cover of 'my love is alive' on her 1st album and when i found out it was a cover of a chaka song i was intrigued to hear the original, and then i discoverd it was on the cd that i already had, and i loved the original so i then finally listend to the whole album and wow........wow..... i play this album like every day, the whole thing!!!! i looove this album, its very very 80's but not in a naff way, its like the good side of 80's music, excellent production that has stood the test of time, still sounds fresh today!
I love the balance of the album, you have the fast dance songs like 'this is my night' 'chinatown' and 'i feel for you', the kind of mid-tempo stuff like 'caught in the act', 'hold her' and 'eye to eye' and the wonerful powerful ballads 'stronger than before' and 'through the fire' it has variety while sounding consistent... there is no filler at all!!! every song is excellent and i never press the skip button, excellent from start to finish, one of my fave albums ever! probably the only album that i love every song on as well
