Biography

Vocalist/bass guitarist/songwriter Glenn Hughes is a true original. No other rock musician has carved such a distinctive style blending the finest elements of hard rock, soul and funk. That astonishing voice is Hughes' calling card. He's known as a singer's singer. Stevie Wonder once called Hughes his favourite white singer.

Hughes, a native of Cannock, England, absorbed all ... Read more in Amazon's Glenn Hughes Store

4.0 out of 5 stars A break from all the screaming 3 Feb 2002
Format:Audio CD
Glenn Hughes is always going to be remembered as the bass player in the Coverdale era Deep Purple which isnt a bad thing on its own. However if you listen to the live recordings from that era you are left with the impression that a soul singer had been put into a hard rock band!He spent most of his time performing embarassing vocal gymnastics that almost drowned out Coverdales lower bluesy vocals. The strange thing is that on this album more than any of his later works, his vocals cover tha whole range of his register from top to bottom and he sounds comfortable with any style from rock to soul. This album tends to be overlooked as it is less aggressive than some of his more recent work. The reason for this is simple it is Glenn Hughes making music for himself and not trying to live up to his "voice of rock" moniker. He has a remarkeable voice whatever he chooses to sing.

3.0 out of 5 stars I feel it 4 Jun 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Glenn Hughes vocals are in top form on this album, but the quality of the songs themselves is mixed at best. There is a fantastic ballad, Save me tonight, but the best song on the album by a mile is Coffee and vanilla. Big time and Redline are also top notch, but the rest are pretty much dudds. This album is worth getting though if you like Glenn Hughes. You won't be dissapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Feel" - Glenn Hughes 5 April 2005
Format:Audio CD
This is one of the better albums I have heard from a very underrated bass player and vocalist who has emerged, very much so, alive and kicking from the shadow of Deep Purple. Although, at times, very much, in the spirit of his former band; he has simply taken what he was doing with them one stage further.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bonus recut of 'Holy Man' only found here 15 Feb 2013
Format:Audio CD
Glenn had Pat Thrall on board for alot of this album.
So it is a quiet H/T reunion of sorts.
The outstanding cut is 'Coffee & Vanilla' which should have been a hit single
with a decent promotional budget.
I wrote to Bob Harris & asked him to play it on his show back in '95
& the sound of silence from Beeb Towers was predictably deafening.
I liked 'Speak Your Mind' & 'Talkin' To Messiah' the latter with some impressive
''Turbo Vocals'' as Glenn likes to say himself.
Too funky for GH's Japanese label & yes Glenn is back on the Bass Guitar!
