In the last couple of years I'd stoppeded feeling as fab as I used to, was even starting to believe I'm invisible anyway so what the heck!

Sue's latest book however is literally packed with good advice, logic, action steps and wisdom. Style, hair, make-up, fashion etc, she covers every topic I could possibly think of (and quite a few I hadn't) with tips that have importantly made me realise a) it's not just me who is going through this ageing process, b) I am far too young to give up and c) there are loads of things I can do to look great and feel confident about my appearance.

Her easy style of writing means she imparts her wisdom with lightness, understanding and humour and is generous and honest in sharing her own style highs and lows.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sue a few years ago and she's a great advert for what she does. I can recommend this book to any woman who has started to feel invisible or who simply wants to carry on looking and feeling great as her 50s approach.

I love this book to pieces! It is certainly the best book on dressing over fifty that I have ever seen. One of my obsessions is make-over books, on which I now count myself a bit of an expert, having had almost everyone going at some stage! Having never been confident in my appearance, I have studied every word, hoping to be transformed into something wonderful. The great thing about Sue's book is that she encourages you to be a better version of yourself, which is really what its all about; then you can get on with the rest of your life.

I love her pithy, witty style of writing and she talks so much good sense. I agree with her that we should look modern over 50, we do live in the 21 century, so lets look like it. As she points out, there is a ground between the elasticated trousers and the pelmet skirt, which can still look sharp and altogether. She talks so much sense and helps you to understand the nuances of modern dress which you may have fallen behind with (i.e. don't wear matching necklace and earrings - truely naff looking nowadays). These little things can truely reveal whether you still have it or not,and they do change with time. there aren't any pics, but I think this helps in a strange way, as it can be tempting to compare yourself to these, or take a dislike to, or even copy how someone is made over. Sue really encourages you to be yourself, first and foremost. She is also a trained life coach which helps a lot in her understanding of people and motivations/female pychology.

I would have liked to have seen her personally for colour advise, but living some distance away, I found an advisor (Colour me Beautiful) she knew locally from her website, and with some trepidation, went along. This turned out to be the some of the best money I'd ever spent - a wonderful experience! Enjoyable, but I learnt so much, and found out that I wasnt in the colour group I thought I was from looking at advise in books. I would, therefore, strongly suggest that if your colouring isn't obvious, you go along to a trained counsellor (preferably a master one, such as Sue or others at this level) and get it done professionally. It is only the cost of one cut and colour at a good salon, the effects last much longer too. Used in conjuction with this book, it is possible to catch up with yourself again, and help yourself to look the best you can. It has done wonders for my confidence and spread over into other areas of my life as well.

Another great book from Sue. I wonder how she does it, sometimes. This is a very honest handbook, that is a bit below the belt - and all the better for it! After all, it is often below the belt that problems cluster for the over-50s isn't it? And Sue tackles all our bugbears, from cellulite and eye-bags to over-plucked eyebrows, hair colour, sags, sloth, diet and exercise. All that AND she teaches us how to dress appropriately for our age without losing our personality. And there is new stuff too, like fashion feng-shui, for example, which was a revelation to me and something I am defifnitely going to try out. This is no-nonsense and frank, and written in typical, witty, accessible and wholly authentic Donnelly style. Yet, by the end of the book, I felt empowered, rather than beyond help. I felt postive, hopeful and determined to look at myself more closely in the mirror next time. A must for any-one over 45!
