4.0 out of 5 stars Broken Beat -- Moves Forward 14 May 2002
Format:Audio CD
The latest one-up in the "broken beat/nu jazz" movement, Agent K aka Kaidi Tatham's entry serves as a homage to the grooves of mid 70's -- think Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and Roy Ayers Ubiquity in the digital age. Feed the K is an intellectual albeit funky exploration of 70's jazzfunk for the new millenium. What's old is new again and it still works. More jam pieces and rhythmic exercises than straight ahead songs, Feed the Kat is sophisticated and never boring. It may take a few close listens to hear all that's on offer but repeated listening will bring rewards. I recommend this for adventureous dj's looking to push the dance floor forward with some advance grooves -- start with the title track Feed the Cat" and then go off from there. This one will be working for a few year, believe me.

Kaidi Tatham's (Agent K) debut album, Feed The Cat, is definitely groundbreaking and a staple of the West London Broken Beat/Nujazz movement! This musical prodigy is often compared to Quincy Jones in several aspects, since he's a producer, and since he plays all of the instruments on the album, and many more! From keyboards to pianos, flutes, fender rhodes, percussion, and beat programming, Kaidi does it! The album has spectacular vocals by Don Ricardo (Ladies first) and Carleen Anderson (Ride away get away), phenomenal instrumentation and complex beat programming. Another must have. A definite essential!
