3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable horror with its tounge, firmly in its cheek., 24 April 2007
By Mr. D. Bell "Dan Bell" (Northampton, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Feast tells the story of a group of strangers in a bar, in a small American town. Soon, events take a turn for the worse when a man enters covered in blood talking about monsters outside. A stand off then begins with the people in the bar barricading themselves in to prevent them being killed by the monsters outside.

This film is copied from others which have been done dozens of times before, but is done with so much tongue in cheek humour that it just about gets away with it. Although there are plenty of deaths along the way they don't always happen in the order you would expect. Whilst you don't really care too much about any of them it does add to the enjoyment when they are killed out of sequence when compared to the normal "rules" of a horror film. Gore fans will be happy as there is plenty on show throughout the film.

The action scenes are very fast and at times it is difficult to see what is going on. This seems to be a trick which is seen frequently on low budget films, usually to hide poor special effects. When we eventually see the monster it comes as somewhat of a disappointment. The frenetic editing would have been better to be used again to allow the viewer to imagine how horrific it is, rather than spoil the illusion with a cheap looking effect.

Overall this is film is a good addition to the low budget horror market. It is not something to see if you want deep, interesting characters and numerous plot twists. If however, you want to see a very tongue in cheek horror, with plenty of gore then this is well worth checking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gore Fest , 31 Oct 2006
By Raff (London) - See all my reviews
Well heres a UK review finally. This movie has had a varied mix of reviews from terrible to brill but it sits in the middle for me. YES there is a plot thinner than damp tissue paper, Yes the acting was on a par with my 4 yr in Senior School (I was brilliant by the way). But still for some reason i really enjoyed it.

From start to finish there is gore, blood comes from everywhere by the gallon with some wicked death scenes and decapitations, eye pulling, amputations and general sick and twisted stuff. FANTASTIC.

This will not win any oscars no but will have you jumping at moments and reaching for the sick bag.

4.0 out of 5 stars [3.5]--"Feast" has a thin plot but supplies a lot of Fun,, 30 Jun 2007
By Jenny J.J.I. "A New Yorker" (That Lives in Northern Nevada) - See all my reviews

It was really good besides one simple unanswered question:

Where the hell did the creatures come from????!!!! First of all the movie has an undeniable good factor about it. Henry Rollins as a second rate Tony Robbins, a Jason Mewes joke, and a truly funny self referential anyone can and will die at anytime vibe all in the first ten minutes sets the table high.

The storyline is nothing ground-breaking, but with the very simple plot, this one makes the most of its cast and writers and turns what could have been a boring dud of a film into an extremely entertaining ride. The movie involves people inside a bar and monsters outside trying to get in. Nothing more. It turns into a surprisingly action packed film for what is basically a one set Rio Bravo remake. Like "Shaun of the Dead" (Another better than anyone could of hoped horror comedy) the characters make the difference.

There is plenty of cannon fodder (Introduced in an almost to long for its own good style of captions rating the various bar patrons survivability) and eye candy and best of all a surprising amount of x-rated violence. (There isn't a body fluid not featured in the movie. Finally an unrated cut that is truly unrated and not just an "R" with some deleted exposition scenes.)

The movie wisely never explains what the monsters are or how they got there. It concentrates on the real time survival of the bar patrons. Did I mention that anyone can die at anytime? Even your best horror movie watching radar will be put to the test as you try to figure out who among the rabble are the prerequisite hero and heroine.

"Feast" again is nothing ground-breaking in terms of concept but has plenty of fun, action, and style covered over by some rough spots. This is simply a good B movie.
