Book Description

2 Jun 2008
From Top of the Pops to the July 2007 Concert for Diana; from The Xtra Factor to Comic Relief; from the Radio One Chart Show to Holly and Fearne Go Dating...Fearne Cotton, with her stunning good looks, fun-loving nature and adorable charm, is never far from our screens. She made her debut on The Disney Club at just fifteen after being spotted in a nationwide talent search in 1998, and, in no time at all, notched up a long list of other TV credits including shows such as "Diggit", "Pump It Up", "Finger Tips", "Draw Your Own Toons" and "Pet Swap". Before long, she was given the task of revitalising "The Saturday Show" for the BBC and since then her popularity has simply gone from strength to strength. In this, the first major biography of the star, Nigel Goodall unveils wonderful stories of Fearne's life and career so far. A self-confessed 'mouthy girl', she is not one too shy away from the spotlight. Covering the truth about her determined rise to fame, her troubled relationships with a string of rock musicians, the inside scoop on Love Island, plus the real reasons for her rejection of that proposal from Robbie Williams. An intimate and revealing portrait of Britain's brightest talent - this book is a must-have for all Fearne fans.

I think the real message behind this book has been missed by many so called reviewers.

This book is a savage satire using the central character "fearne" as a lens through which to view modern popular culture. This is a book which really exposes the popular entertainment industry for the empty shell of a sham of a facade that it is.

The encounters with the various celebrities show the lead character to have no self awareness and no understanding of her position in the world. Her life is so empty and of so little consequence that the narrative has to be padded out with the PR constructs that modern society pays far too much attention to already.

This significant and impressive artistic work is a challenge to modern society and so justifies many the shocking excesses that the author indulges in but can be so sickening at times than one often has to close the book and take a shower, reading on is just not an option. This feeling remains with me still and for this I cannot honestly give the book the full 5 stars

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing! 10 Jan 2009
By Zoso
As a fan of Fearne's, I was really keen to read this book and find out more about her life and her rise to fame. The book does cover this but wastes a lot of time giving loads of unneccessary detail on everything from the rise and fall of 'Tops of the Pops', Kylie Minogue's career and lots of other stuff which didn't really have anything to do with Fearne at all.

I've read a lot of biographies which do a really good job of covering the subjects life in depth. Unfortunatley, this is the worst biog I have ever read and it seems as though the author just didn't have enough material to work with.
