Jazmine Sullivan deserves to be a big star and with 4 grammy nominations already I think she will be. Up there with Alicia Keys' 'Songs in A Minor' for a quality debut album.
.) Bust Your Windows. 5/5. This was the first song of Jazmine's that I heard purchased the album based on this song. The lyrics tell the story of getting revenge on a lover. Could be a massive hit.
.) Need You Bad. 5/5. Again another fantastic track. It begin with a reggae influenced intro and leads into beautiful verses reminiscent of Lauryn Hill's vocals with a Sunshine Anderson-esq chorus.
.) My Foolish Heart. 4/5. Not quite as good as the majority of the songs on the album but still better than anything in the charts. Her voice sounds similar to Faith Evans on this track.
.) Lions, Tigers & Bears. 5/5. Strong contender for the best song of the album. Beautiful lyrics, vocals and music, "I'm not scared of Lions, Tigers & Bears but I'm scared of loving you, I'm not scared to perform at a sold out affair but I'm scared of loving you."
.) Call Me Guilty. 5/5. Domestic violence is the theme of this track and how killing her man is justice for what he has done. The verses, chorus and adlibs at the end are all fantastic. Another of my favourites.
.) One Night Stand. 5/5. A really catchy uptempo track, it's quite poppy but still good.
.)After The Hurricane. 5/5. A lovely, chilled out ballad which has grown on me.
.) Dream Big. 5/5. Another uptempo poppy track about Jazmine's dreams for making it in the music industry.
.)Live A Lie. 4/5. In this song Jazmine sings about how she would rather live a lie than know the truth about a cheating boyfriend.
.) Fear. 5/5. Another of my favourite tracks with fantastic lyrics about all the things that Jazmine's afraid of "I'm scared to to try 'cos I'm scared to fail, I'm scared to die, cos I'm scared of hell... I'm scared to learn, 'cos I'm scared of truth, I don't wanna gain wait so I'm scared of food..."
.) In Love With Another Man. 5/5. A lovely piano ballad, again this one grew on me.
.) Switch! (Bonus Track) 5/5. A fun upbeat track where Jazmine sings about how she wants to go out with her date's best friend. It doesn't quite fit with the rest of the album but I'm glad it's included as a bonus.
If you like Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Sunshine Anderson, Sylenna Johnson and Alicia Keys then buy this album. The lyrics (Jazmine co-wrote all 12 tracks), vocals, music and production are top quality. An amazing debut album - highly recommended!
