Book Description

Hunter Garrity is used to watching his back. The kids at school sense something different about him. And they’re right.
Hunter has powers that have nothing to do with how hard he can throw a punch.
Maybe that’s what Clare Kasten is picking up. She’s shy, quiet, and intense, but she’s sought him out. There’s no telling what she wants from him.
But Hunter knows enough to sense a secret when it’s close. And getting close to Clare is a danger he’s ready to face…

4.0 out of 5 stars :o) 2 Aug. 2012

Okay, I officially like Hunter a lot better.
It's not that I didn't like him in Storm. More that I just wanted Becca to be with Chris and Hunter was kind of getting in the way.
Well, what a difference having him as the frontline character can make.
Yes, Fearless is real short (not a problem when it's pretty cheap to buy), but I felt as though I learned so much about Hunter's character in here, as well as about his family background, that I now understand his motivations in Storm a lot better. It also means I'll be looking forward to Spirit a lot more, now I've had a taste of Hunter as MC.
The only issue I have is the timeline. Because Goodreads has this one listed as #1.5, which would mean (in my head) it's set after Storm, but the story is actually set pre-Storm, so I got a little confused for a while as to when's about in the series we were.**
But I still enjoyed it, for sure--enough so that I kept trying to read slower just so I wouldn't reach the end so fast.
Oh, and I really liked where it ended. :)

**somebody please feel free to correct me if I have that data wrong

4.0 out of 5 stars Elemental book 1.5 3 Nov. 2012
By Sarah (Feeling Fictional) TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In the Elemental series time line the events in Fearless actually occur between the first short story Elemental and the first book but as this would give you major spoilers I want to point out that it is very important not to read this before Storm.

Fearless gives us a glimpse at Hunter's life before he meets Becca and the Merricks and it was really nice to learn more about him and what his life was like when his father and uncle were still alive. I'm not going to go into the plot because it is far to easy to give spoilers on such a short story but this really gives an insight into Hunters beliefs and it goes a long way to explain his actions in Storm.

It isn't essential to read this story before Spark but it is always nice to learn a bit more background information about the characters we've met and I'm happy to spend extra time in the Elemental world any way I can get it. Brigid Kemmerer has created a fantastic series and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly written story. 27 Mar. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If there is one series that I have been reading and loving continuously, it has been the Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer. So, when I found out that she had released a novella between book one and two, I knew that I simply had to read it. Once more, I was swayed by Brigid’s powerful words which drew me into the story and kept me there. This was just a short snippet of what is to come but it was written incredibly well and really got me excited for Spirit.

This novella is from the perspective of Hunter. It is before he met the Merrick brothers and is just a little background into what his life was like before. It was a story of the perfect length as it gave you an idea of who Hunter was and how he became the way he was later on. It was interesting to read, enjoyable, and the perfect little novella to keep you going while you wait, in agony for the next book to finally reach your hands. It is the perfect teaser for what is on the horizon in the third book, Spirit.

Personally, I never really liked Hunter from the first two books. (Yes, I read the series out of order but it is possible to do that so it’s okay!) Really it was only because I didn’t really know him. You never see a lot of him in the books to really bond with him. You do get to see a bit more of him in the second book and I can see how I might grow to like him a bit more but I just never really thought of him. After reading Fearless, however, I’m really quite intrigued by him and cannot wait to read an entire book from his perspective. He’s a guy who has had a lot to deal with in his life and just wants to be seen and to make his father proud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fearless By Brigid Kemmerer 8 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was just a short eBook that I downloaded for free from Amazon. I didn't realise it was part of a set at the time, otherwise would have read the other books first. However, this can be read as a stand-alone book. I enjoyed it and would definitely like to read the rest of the series.

Interesting, put me on edge. Good book, and consistent flow. No repetition of stuff and good description. I felt I was there due to the description. Cannot wait to read spark.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, insightful addition to the series! 3 Aug. 2012

Being such a huge fan of the Elemental series, I have been super excited to read Fearless, the prequel to Storm that shows some of Hunter's story.

The Hunter we see in Fearless is a very different from the Hunter we see in Storm. In Storm, Hunter seems quite confident and self-assured - though not cocky or egotistical - around girls, or rather Becca. This is not the case in Fearless. In Fearless, he hasn't even really spoken to a girl before, so when Clare, out of nowhere, suddenly wants to know him, Hunter is not only taken aback, he's a little unsure of how he should act. Despite advice from both his Dad and his uncle about how people are drawn to him because of his abilities as a fifth elemental and probably intends to use him, he refuses to believe Clare is actually after anything. What could she be after? She doesn't even know him. So begins the awkward attempts to keep her wanting to talk to him.

This story is brilliant at helping us learn what led to the version of Hunter we see in Storm. He learns some valuable lessons from his Dad and his Uncle Jay, and from his experience with Clare. Well, I say valuable - that would be their opinion. Fearless helps us understand that Hunter in Storm is a guy who wants to do his father and his uncle proud, a guy who wants to prove himself. It's so awesome to see his relationship with his father and his uncle, how close they are, how much he admires them. This is amazing considering future events; I have been lucky enough to read an e-ARC of Spark, and now after reading Fearless too, knowing what I now know from reading both stories... wow, I am SO looking forward to Spirit, where Hunter has his own novel. It's going to be incredible.
