Biography

27 years of grindcore ultra-violence, 27 years of being one of the hardest working, hardest touring bands on this miserable planet, NAPALM DEATH’s conviction, energy and belief in spontaneoust, outspoken yet extreme music is far from being watered down. “Time Waits For No Slave”, the band’s 13th studio album (excluding the cover album “Leaders Not Followers ... Genuinely, I mean that. This album is an absolute corker and the chap who stated that it was a 'failed experiment' clearly doesn't understand the band or the genre. Maybe he read somewhere that Napalm Death had a 'slump' and was trying to be clever with his review. Let me tell you, that comment was never levelled at this record. In fact, this is Napalm Death at their absolute peak and like the other 5 Star reviewer, I think this is their best album by a country mile.
Don't forget, this is the album which received a 5K review in Kerrang and got a 5 Star review in Raw (if anyone remembers that fine magazine!) upon its release.
So why is this such a great album??? - Firstly, its monsterously heavy, but it never descends into a noisy mess.
Secondly, the grooves are immense and there are very few bands who have ever managed to fuse the kind of twisting groovy riffs with heavy music like Napalm did on this album.
Thirdly, every track is incredible and within each track there are around 5 different directions that the song takes the listener, as new riffs keep exploding out of the speakers - hung is incredible, retching on the dirt is a monster and the opening riff on Remain Nameless should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
All true Napalm Death fans will have this album anyway, but for all fans of heavy music, I urge you to buy it as it truely is an undiscovered classic. Then you can be really smug in front of your mates when they all want to borrow it! It really is that good!

This is my personal favourite. I know purists will say that scum was their finest but for me 'Fear Emptiness Despair ' has it all. Dark and throbbing, heavy but not overwhelming. This is not a soft album by any desription but it is very accessible. Vocals are hard and growling and the riffs are spectacular and memorable. Some call it grindcore, some death, some thrash. To me it's just Napalm Death at their best.

Along with 2000's Enemy Of The Music Business; Napalm Death's fifth studio album Fear, Emptiness, Despair is a clear contender for best Napalm Death album to date.

Released in 1994, with the first occasion of the band not having a line-up change between records; Fear, Emptiness, Despair represents Napalm Death at the absolute apex of their early career, displaying all the immense talent and musicianship they had been building over the years, creating a genuinely unique record that no other band could have ever released.

The album seamlessly mixes their older insane speeds, (then) newer death metal influences and adds in a touch of the groove metal of the time to create an utterly compelling release that ranges various tempos and styles while still maintaining the classic Napalm Death feel and attitude.

Highlights include the absolutely blistering 'Hung,' and the famous 'Plague Rages,' as well as 'Armageddon x7' and 'More than Meets the Eye,' although to be fair the entire album is so consistent and enjoyable nothing is really less than fantastic.

The only flaw that the album really has is that the production style is fairly muddy and dense in that distinctive mid-nineties extreme-metal way, which can make tracks from this album seem less polished and perfect than they really are (something they have no problem with in the live show when all tracks are produced the same.)

Overall; Fear, Emptiness, Despair is one of the band's finest outings and an absolute must-have release for any Napalm Death fan. It isn't the kind of album you listen to once and then stick on the shelf never to be seen again, this is an album you will listen to for years after your initial purchase. When they play anything from this live, it is sure to bring a smile to your face!

The title is iconic, fear, emptiness, despair can mean the reality of us humans, inside, what we always will be. This album shows us and as always Napalm Death's music is deep and extremely realistic which is what makes this music a powerful hit to the gut.

I wont go too heavily into this but if you're a fan of Napalm Death this album is a must. The nature of the songs here are very dark with sweat soaked intensity. The feel is a little different from Utopia Banished but its much darker and just as heavy and complex. As always the guitars are hammering, the vocals as heavy as they ever could be. It's great music to listen to when your angry and need to clear your head.

Don't dismiss this album if you want the most extreme metal you can listen to and Napalm Death fans need to buy this.
