Product Description

In these stories you will find angels, demons, monsters, magicians, ghosts, aliens, monks, a vampire, an assassin, an evil scientist, and a motley assortment of travellers on a rather strange version of the London Underground. And, of course, a dragon. Some of these stories are serious, some a lot less so. And there's one story that has a rather nasty spell woven into it, which you are strongly advised not to read, just in case...

Chris Naylor is the author of the 'Camelot Wizards' trilogy of comic fantasy novels, which is available on Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fantastical Short Stories 9 April 2013
By Pope Mel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"I fear books; for I have heard it said, and I think it true, that a man who spends long enough in their company grows at last unmindful of the world outside their covers, and lives finally in a twilight world of fantastic things and places as insubstantial as dreams."

For those of you who do not fear books, and wish for nothing more than to get lost inside their covers...I heartily recommend this one. Here are fantastic worlds, brought to life by a great and talented writer. These are stories of dream-stuff - dragons, ghosts, demons, and monks that long to fly. Here, the printed word can kill, and librarians are pegged for assassination.

- An elderly couple discovers that playing with Death's newfangled, handheld device can have serious ramifications.

- Earth must take part in The Galactivision Song Contest or be blasted to smithereens.

- A Prehistoric scientist must struggle to save her Tribe, and adapt to new technology...all while hatching an egg.

- Mild-mannered computer programmer Arthur Lewis gets to switch places with his fictional creation, Artor Lu-Wis, the sword-wielding dispossessed ruler of the exotic city of Kroy-Don...

'Where are you from, friend? Your clothes are very odd.' He leaned forward, looking interested. 'You aren't by any chance from the fabled land of Brum, where the taverns reek with the decadent odours of drug-laden cookery, and the women are notorious for their complete lack of morals and underclothing?'
'No, I'm not,' said Arthur sadly. 'I live in a block of flats in Harlow, just behind the bottlebank.'

Sounds somewhat Pratchettesque, doesn't it?

You'll find plenty of oddball characters and wonderful adventures in this collection of imaginative stories.

Some of Naylor's lighter work, very very funny. Anyone who enjoys Terry Prachett's Diskword books, would enjoy this book and the antics of the Wizard and his Dwarf friend.

Not many anthologies have me reading every story, but this one did. The Stuff Dreams Are Made of is a wonderful telling of the Sandman and his dream works. The Castle at World's End is a great story about finding oneself. I really enjoyed The Arthur Lewis Special..

All of them are good reads, and quite enjoyable.

Sometimes short stories just hit the spot. Chris Naylor knows how to tell a short story, not a common skill among authors. These are from several genres and I enjoyed them all.
