The three other reviews of this disc all seem to think it's one of Donna Summer's later albums, and disagree on its quality. I can state with some certainty (I'm listening to it now) that it is in fact a fine recording of an early English masterpiece, with plenty of real music and not too much tedious plainsong stuffed in as filler. This is the Cardinall's Music at what was probably the height of their powers, with none of the occasional infelicities of tone or tuning which have been detected in more recent recordings. Well worth acquiring.

The Wanderer is probably my favourite album of all time! It blends new wave music with rock music and 80s synth disco. Her previous album 'Bad Girls' already proved that Donna was going to survive disco's backlash in the USA, but 'the Wanderer' also proved that Donna was more comfortable in rock music than with her earlier 'Love to Love You Baby' disco/sleaze image.

This album is faultless! Unlike her follow up 'I'm A Rainbow' (which is another 5 star album) this album does not sound as dated or as 'rushed'.
My favourite songs here are 'Stop Me'- a feel-good new wave affair with a powerful chorus; 'Nightlife'- a wonderful, 'driving' song; 'Running for Cover'- Donna wrote this song and it's one of the strongest in the album; 'Looking Up'- Moroder/Bellotte/Summer perfection; The hits 'The Wanderer', 'Cold Love', & 'Who do You Think You're Foolin'- all three should have been Donna's biggest smash hits; 'Breakdown'- Donna's vocals shine best in this song- so sweet yet powerful; the thrilling, synth-laden 'Grand Illusion'; and of course the final song 'I Believe in Jesus'- God Bless You Donna Summer!!!

Although I really love Donna Summer's work, I cannot give this album more than 3 stars. The title track is catchy enough, and I also enjoy Cold Love, Who Do You Think You're Foolin' and Stop Me. The music is very different from her synth-laden disco roots - more rock and pop, though still with a high danceability factor in some instances. But most of the songs here are not particularly inspiring and are really quite average. A far cry from the brilliance and originality of Bad Girls and Once Upon A Time. But this not a bad album, just disappointing when one knows what Donna Summer is capable of achieving.
