This »Fawlty Towers« video contains the three episodes »Gourmet Night« (originally broadcast on 17/10 1975), »Waldorf Salad« (5/3 1979) and »The Kipper And The Corpse« (12/3 1979) - which are quite different concerning entertainment value.

»Gourmet Night« is average. In the classical Fawlty style, and therefore pretty funny. In the episode »Waldorf Salad«, however, the laughs are very few. It's as if too much time is spent on the one and only point: a USAmerican in Britain. The climax on this tape is »The Kipper And The Corpse« where everything that can(not) go wrong, does so... as always in this show, although in this case it's even funnier.

It's a bit annoying that a very long part of the John Cleese interview is at the beginning of this video tape. I mean, it's very interesting to listen to the Master Himself's thoughts about »Fawlty Towers« - but it's not something you want to watch every time you feel like watching »Fawlty Towers«!

The hapless Spanish waiter Manuel reels across the hotel dining-room. Basil glowers, looking for a guest on whom to vent his spleen. Sybil is on the phone to Audrey, catching up on the gossip. Pretty Polly is still trying to sell one of her paintings...life at Fawlty Towers. Check in here for three hilarious episodes from the award-winning BBC TV series.

1. GOURMET NIGHT

The cream of Torquay society turns out for a special gourmet night at Fawlty Towers. Expectations are high but so, unfortunately, is the chef. In fact, he's incapably drunk! A desperate Basil hurtles round to a friend's restaurant in a car that's about as reliable as his chef. His mission to find a replacement main course -- he's out for a duck.

2. WALDORF SALAD

Mine host's penny-pinching catches up with him as an American guest demands the quality of service not normally associated with the 'Torquay Riviera', as Basil calls his neck of the woods. A Waldorf Salad is not part of Fawlty Towers' standard culinary repertoire, nor is a Screwdriver to be found on the hotel's drinks list...

3. THE KIPPER AND THE CORPSE

Chaos reigns as one of the guests with total disregard for Basil's blood pressure, dies in his bed. Doubtless it was the kippers (which should have been thrown out weeks ago) that did for him. Demented and panic stricken, Basil attempts to conceal both the body and the extremely fishy breakfast.

waldorf salad is extremely funny, with Basil going completely mad. A satirical view on anglo-ameican relations. Kippers is also great
