5.0 out of 5 stars Try this, you non-believers 11 Aug 2008
By Jorrox
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The previous review is wrong in a couple of ways.

This was recorded in 1965 right at the peak of the Clancy Brothers (and Tommy Makem) popularity. It could be argued that they went into decline after 1966.

The Clancys never recorded anything about 'ould Ireland' or anything like it. The Aran jumpers are a hindrance for a lot of people, but just get past that and there is a world of great stuff in the CB repertoire (most of which is out-of-print though).

This is a great recording and has only the voice and guitar of the most talented (by far IMHO) of the group, Liam. This recording still sounds great today (as does Liam).

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic album, worth reviving ! 7 Feb 2007
Format:Audio CD
This album captures a young Liam Clancy before he really teamed up professionally with his brothers and Tommy Makem. Recorded originally on the American folk label Vanguard this re-issue on Ace records also has been expanded with nine previously unreleased tracks. I could not help notice the resemblance in performance to Christy Moore in the way the songs are delivered. However, this is a compliment as I am a big fan of Christy Moore who obviously was influenced by Liam!

Also, Bob Dylan was a big admirer too of Liam Clancy. I was expecting a jolly,' too- ral- ley- aye' sort of album picturing those photo stills of the Clancy Brothers in nice Arran sweaters singing in a hearty way of `Ould Ireland'.

This album is much better than that, each song sung sensitively from the heart. A great classic album, if you are a fan of Irish Music and you don't have this album then you should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Liam Clancy - Favourites 1 & 2 - Just great 1 May 2013
By Dave
Format:MP3 Download|Amazon Verified Purchase
What a great CD this is, from the late Liam Clancy. There are just so many excellent songs to choose from, but the price of the CD is worth it just for The Dutchman, which is beautifully sung, and so touching.
