These recipe books from J Salmon LTD publishers, are little gems. They're great if you want a taste of "what granny used to make" or for teaching children/grandchildren what real food tastes like. They're simple to follow, easy to make & are so mmmmmmm!!! This one in the series "favourite cake recipes" is a wonderful trip back in time to when "teatime" meant something light & sweet. Recipes include "All in one fruit cake" This recipe is a great alternative to the traditional Christmas cake & so simple even a child could make it, light & moist. Also, Carrot & walnut cake, better than what you'd buy at the supermarket, better taste & costs less to make a whole one than it does just to buy one slice. There's lots more books in the series, & buying from Amazon is simple, I buy them a few at a time to spread the cost, not that they cost much anyway. Buy the whole series or just the ones you want, it's that easy, & they're worth every penny.

I own the whole series of these books and every single one of them contains a great selection of recipes.

If you are a basic cook like me, then these recipes are ideal. However, if you like to cook complex fancy dishes then these may disappoint you.

The ingredients used are everyday items that most of us will have in our kitchens and the layout is very simple to use. The majority of the recipes I have tried have turned out extremely well and my friends have all commented on the books and borrow them!

Each book has a paperback wipe clean cover which is very practical. The majority have around 48 pages and the recipes are in alphebetical order with an index at the back. Obviously these are budget books and you will not find any fancy photographs, however, the food is simple and easy to make and is very tasty!

If like me you become addicted to these fab little books then be careful as a number of recipes are repeated throughout a number of books, but at this price who cares!

One helpful thing to know is, that as Amazon only stock a limited number of these books, there are contact details in the back of each book so you can order directly from Salmon books directly.

Well worth 5 stars.

Tea and cake has traditionally been a cornerstone of British society, irrespective of one's status and income. Cakes of yore have typically been large brick affairs but over time they have been refined often into more delicate affairs that can grace the table of any high tea occasion. No matter what type of occasion you have in mind, there can be a cake for you.
Dozens of recipes are provided that give instructions on how to make classic English cakes, ranging from a basic Fruit Cake, Apple Cake, Cider Cake and Easter Cake to Raspberry Gateau, Swiss Roll and Whisky Cake. For a couple of pounds you are treated to inspirational recipes that are relatively easy-to-follow and provide a good, non-fussy teatime treat.
These two little books, forming part of a wonderful little series, are ideal "impulse buys" aimed at tourists and eager cooks alike, and are packed full of recipes and accompanied by a number of illustrations of past cottage and country life to help set the mood.
Many recipe books attempt to complicate basic recipes with lots of fripperies and, while they can have their place, it can sometimes be hard to find good, traditional recipes that focus on the ingredients rather than the techniques or visual styling. With these books you need to look no further.
One cannot praise these books and others in the series highly enough. Great little books, at a great little price, with a few quirky and esoteric recipes to boot. A cornerstone for every kitchen library.

The recipes are really simple written. The ingredients and instructions are on one small page. There was lots of variety in the recipes and Im sure there would be something to suit all tastes. Is is small enough to store in a drawer and the price was excellent.

Really love the 'old style' baking in this book. Have made the carrot cake, but update the finished item into cupcakes and was AMAZING.
