I first heard this piece at a summer concert in Westminster Cathedral. Later, I heard it on Radio 3, and made a tape of it. I still think it better than any other rendering of it. The old tape is getting a bit feeble, so I searched your lists, found the very same recording, so bought it. I still think it wonderful.

I've known the Faure for many years. Popp and Te Kanawa are excellent, each in their own way. The Faure is perhaps interpreted somewhat more slowly than in some other versions. The Durufle seems excellent, though I am not as familiar with this piece.

A mandatory acquisition! 7 May 2013

These recordings have been among my top 3 "desert island" recordings since I first purchased the LPs back in the late 70s. Andrew Davis (not 'Colin" as David Hurwitz claims in an earlier product review) has probably never made a more energetic, incandescent or beautiful record as this. With the help of Lucia Popp and Kiri Te Kawana (sounding absolutely radiant in the 'Pie Jesus' in the full orchestra version of Durufle's masterwork), the two Requiems have never sounded so resplendent - especially with this new Sony Masters remastered budget release. The new CD removes much of the glare that plagued the LPs and the first CD incarnation Faure: Requiem, Op. 48; Durufle: Requiem, Op. 9. No matter recordings you have of these two beloved masterpieces, you need to add one more. Highly Recommended!
