Review

"(The handbook) has an optimistic and joyous tone...
I think it could well be very useful for many dads and families."
-- Dr Yehudi Gordon, MB Bch FRCOG FCOG (SA)

"A must-read for all fathers-to-be. A superb guide for
understanding the father-mother-child relationship;
truly informative, inspirational and enlightening." -- Publisher-Wellbeing Magazine-Richard Branson

"This much-needed book is best described as a road map for the transition to fatherhood. As far as I'm aware, there is very little available for fathers-to-be in coming to understand the journey ahead of them, as well as learning about the needs of their pregnant partner.
Throughout the text, which combines interesting research with anecdotes, it retains a delightful, personal feel, as if you're in conversation with the author. He avoids patronising the reader, and although geared to the mainstream market, excitingly, it dares to push a few boundaries to help a man extend his view into parenting, and indeed life. TM readers will feel at home within the pages of this book. Written by a father/grandfather, for fathers, it is also cleverly designed to fit in a man's pocket!" -- Veronika Robinson, editor of `The Mother Magazine'

From the Publisher

With the publishing of this book, for the first time ever, society is being asked to fully support our families and our children and in a whole new way. Will history repeat itself? Will family patterns repeat themselves? Or will we, as a society and as parents, make new choices and support a cultural evolution through intentional and conscious parenting practices, beginning with conception.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for All Expectant Fathers 11 April 2010
Format:Paperback
Patrick Houser has created a simple to understand magical support for all men about to embark on the momentous journey of fatherhood. The amazing thing is that this little book is also an invaluable guide to those men who are already fathers regardless of age. It's never to late to be a great parent as we are always models to our kids and this book clearly explains the process. I would love to see this handbook in every maternity community.

5.0 out of 5 stars not obvious and nice reading for moms to be too 13 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
worth every penny to understand each other point of view for both parents to be.
quick reading for overview but it can be read at different levels according to the involvement that the person wants to reach (that with fathers to be is not always obvious).

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for every dad-to-be 25 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback
Many of us think of prenatal care as optimizing the health of mother and child, rarely consider the father's psychological health, and his relationship with his partner and their unborn child. Little acknowledgment is given to the fact that pregnancy is a time of tremendous change and uncertainty for many men. During pregnancy, dads-to-be have legitimate needs and concerns, and addressing these enables a man to be more fully present to his partner and baby. The quality of the couple's relationship is the primary determinant of their ability to navigate the transition to parenthood; and mothers have an easier, happier and healthier pregnancy when father is involved and supportive.

Fathers to Be Handbook is a must read for every dad-to-be. Early involvement in pregnancy is highly significant to a father's bonding with his child, and fathers who are involved are more likely to be around for the long haul. Imminently readable, practical and engaging, this book addresses the very legitimate issues and concerns that emerge for the expectant dad, and supports him through this vital passage to parenthood--all this, in a nutshell.

Not only for the dad-to-be, this Handbook is also an important read for partners and grandparents, to enable them to better understand the often ignored terrain and significance of this period, for the man they love.

As a mom, grandmother, Childbirth Educator and woman committed to impacting the birth experience as a way to ensure positive & successful family experiences, I would highly suggest this book to everyone. My husband & i have been involving dads in our couples childbirth classes for 25 years. Houser has written a book that captures many useful practices for dads to begin life altering conversations. Thanks for such a valuable contribution to the birthing community and the world.
5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading for Expecting Dads 12 Aug 2013
By Elly Taylor - Published on Amazon.com

As a perinatal relationship specialist, I know that becoming a family involves a lot more than just having a baby. Mothers and fathers both have their own hopes and concerns that they need to work through and both go through their own processes of transformation. Fathers-to-be Handbook is an easy-to-read but lots-to-think-about guidebook that highlights important issues for fathers - why they matter, their relationship with their own father (that can cloud a new-dad's experience), sex and intimacy, preparing for birth, bonding with baby and supporting their partner - I can't recommend it highly enough. The issues this book covers make great conversation points for couples to prepare for what will be the biggest journey of their lives. Essential reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for expectant fathers 28 Mar 2011
By Jeane Rhodes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This little gem of a book needs to be in the home of all fathers-to-be, whether just contemplating starting a family or well on your way to fatherhood. It's also delightful reading for parents of any age. It's the perfect gift for expectant parents and must-reading for grandparents. So much has been learned in the past half-century about the importance of the first nine months of life and this book is a much needed addition to the available information, as it's in the small, but growing, area addressing the importance of fathers.

I bought this book for my boyfriend when I realized how worried he was to become a father. The book is written by a man for men. So far the book has been great!
