Amazon.co.uk Review

This set contains the final series of Father Ted, which ended abruptly in 1998 with the death of its talented comic star, Dermot Morgan. The eight episodes here are a little uneven, but the best stuff is classic, laugh-out-loud satire, including "Are You Right There, Father Ted", in which Morgan's titular Catholic priest is re-banished to Ireland's Craggy Island, a green rock replete with paranoid sheep, randy milkmen, Nazi memorabilia collectors and an inexplicably large community of Chinese immigrants. Outstanding, too, is "Speed 3", in which Ted discovers that a number of babies recently born on Craggy all look like a self-made swinger named Pat Mustard. "Kicking Bishop Brennan Up the Arse" speaks for itself, and "The Mainland" gives supporting actor Ardal O'Hanlon (as idiotic fellow cleric Dougal) a great showcase. --Tom Keogh

Ok, let's get something clear, Father Ted is the ultimate comedy, not a bad episode was ever aired, all the characters are superbly portrayed and each episode has a mental plot which not even the deepest crevice of you brain could muster up! Most of the episodes featured here, in series 3, are some of the best Father Ted episodes anywhere. I mean, who could forget the hilarious Hitler scene in the first episode here, it sticks with you and is something you will not ever forget; or how about when they all go to the mainland and the obnoxious, but always loveable Father Jack has a run in with a non-drinking committee and anyone who watches the program will be aware of his drinking addiction, anyway you cut it, this is pure T.V. gold and a strong contender for best comedy ever. For anyone who hasn't seen this program before I cannot recommend it enough, it is side splittingly funny and series 3 is an excellent place to start! Seriously though, I envy all of you out there who have never seen this show, because unlike you, I will never have the pleasure of viewing any given episode for the first time ever again!

Take Care and enjoy!

Do yourself a favour and buy this set. Do yourself another favour and watch the "Speed 3" episode until you're laughing so hard that you pass out! Pat Mustard should have won an Oscar for his role, afterall...he is absolutely gorgeous! Just watch out for his Massive Tool!!

great comedy 12 Jan 2011

A great comedy series set on fictitious Craggy Island. This third series focuses on the stressed life of Father Ted Crilly. He is more interested in the likes of fame and wealth than any spiritual things. And he dreams of a better situation than he is in.
Ted is good natured but his patience is always being tested by young assistant the enthusiastic and rather thick Father Dougal McGuire. He is always taking things literally and this leads to disastrous consequences. Also in the house is the bad mouthed Father Jack Hackett who is an angry, wheelchair bound, alcoholic and crazed senior priest.
It would seem that the trio have all been exiled to this bleak island by the church they serve. Possibly because supposedly Ted embezzled charity money, Dougal has supposedly done something with some nuns, and Jack may have been involved in some sort of wedding ceremony outrage.
Also there is the comic character interest of their housekeeper Mrs Doyle who is always insisting they have a cup of tea and the occasional visit from Father Stone and Father Noel Furlong.
The series has a slight comic dig at the church and there is plenty of slapstick comedy. And generally speaking this is a classic and very original comedy.
