While Ted dreams of a more high-class parish, Dougal attempts to grasp complex theological issues between games of Cluedo, Jack shouts 'Drink! Feck! Arse! Girls!' with little or no provocation and Mrs Doyle does her best to give Irish friendliness and hospitality a bad name. Father Ted: The Complete Scripts is, uniquely, a collection of late, but not final drafts - jokes, characters and scenes that didn't make it into the series are here, along with an introduction to each episode by the authors, which explains how the insane plotlines arose. This is a paperback re-print of last year's "Complete Scripts," and is every bit as brilliant. Every ted fan should have this book on their shelves, if only for the commentary on each episode by writers Arther Matthews and Grahan Lineham. Very overlooked, yet very brilliant. it is worth noting that these scripts arent the final versions that went out to air, but an earlier draft showing more hilarious moments that were never meant to be seen on air. A classic book to complement a classic series.

Nice to see a script book actually written by the people responsible for the series. At least twice in every episode I laughed out loud. This book contains scenes, lines and jokes cut from the actual series as well as notes from Linehan and Matthews about why they were written, characters etc. Bit to look out for: Ted trying to teach Jack to say "yes" and "that would be an ecumenial matter". The only reason this book doesn`t get 5 stars from me is that you always know what is going to happen when you watch the programme.

Reading this is just as hilarious as watching the show itself. Somehow the stage directions make Dougal even more gormless, Jack even more malicious. Essential reading to have by the bedside table, or to dip into whenever you feel a bit blue. In my opinion no comedy has yet to top Father Ted. In the current trend of offensive stand-up comedians and catch-phrase sketches, there's nothing quite like the following:
Mrs Doyle: Now, what do you say to a cup?
Jack: FECK OFF, CUP!
Bliss.
Mrs Doyle: Now, what do you say to a cup?
Jack: FECK OFF, CUP!

My favourite TV show, and my favourite scripts book
I love "Father Ted", and always watch it whenever it is on TV, own all the DVDs and spin-offs, and am also one of those tiresome types who can quote big chunks of the dialogue. Read more

Brilliant tv programme
These scripts are very funny, whilst the inclusion of draft scripts rather than the broadcast version does provide an insight into the developments of the script into the show. Read more

Very Funny! :)
I don't normaly watch Father Ted. But a friend of mine gave me the book, just after reading the first story I was in stiches laughing it was the funniest thing I ever read!
