One of our children's all-time favorite books 14 May 2002
By Anje - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Our three children all adored this book. They (at 32, 30, and 22) STILL have many verses committed to memory - as do I!

Oh my goodness, oh my dear
Sassafras and ginger beer
Chocolate cake and apple punch
I'm too full to eat my lunch!

and

Ride your red horse down Vinegar Lane
Gallop, oh gallop, oh gallop again
Thistles and foxholes and fences beware
I've seventeen children, but none I can spare

and

Thomas Thomas Tinkertoes
Upside down and away he goes
He's off to call upon the queen
In blue and crimson velveteen

Anyway, I could go on and on with these playful and wonderful words - and the illustrations are incredibly winsome and witty! Kids love them, but the adult eye will understand their true delight!

This is a great gift for a young child!

There is No Children's Book Finer! 1 April 2000
By R. J Metz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A Few of my favorite childhood memories are the many times My Aunt read this fabulous children's book to me. I must have had her read it many times. She loves this book and we still quote it, and I still read my copy all the time, even though I am eighteen. Now My Aunt's Step-Son has a baby boy and My Aunt is desperate because she wants this same book for her Step-Grandson, but sadly, it is Out of Print. I suggest that anybody who wants to see a re-print edition, click on the link "e-mail a friend about this book," and then send a message to feedback@harpercollins.com and in the space where you add a personal message, please indicate how much you want the book back in print.

30 some odd years later, I can still recite these rhymes 28 Aug 2011
By E. OBrien - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
When I started to talk, it wasn't just a word, I started with Father Fox. Outside of the usual "mamas" and "papas" I didn't utter much until the day I recited "Oh my goodness, oh my dear..." Now, 30 some odd years later, I can still recite that and most of the other rhymes from Father Fox. The rhymes were and still are charming and delightful. Their simple stories with wonderfully mature grammar encourages one to love words in a way that carries on for years to come. I'm so thrilled this book is back in print. I plan to buy it for every parent-to-be along with the other books I adored so much as a kid - Tikitiketembo, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing, Good Night Moon and Where the Wild Things Are. Some great things never get old, Father Fox is definitely one of them.
